Norman Contract Talks Stall per Person

YOU CAN ALSO SAY THIS ABOUT EVERY DB IN THE LEAGUE.  I Understand the typical responses for reasons not to keep players around but you are also overrating our front 7 to down play Norman which is common around here. I will give you 2013 (when Norman didnt play much) but last year our front 7 took a dip till it got late in the season which WAS Normans break out year. He played well in games when our front 7 didnt. And please name a DB that handles Megatron without help? What kind of game plan is that for the best WR in the league in the first place? The highest paid DBs are not even put in that position on the field.

I think the matter should be looked at from the standpoint of last year Norman was a key player on D when we had issues and played up to his potential. Now he needs to do it for a full season to show his worth, if our front 7 plays up to 2013 then his value may be diminished but i am not riding on that myself. Rivera is already said they are worried about the pass rush so Norman will have plenty of opportunities to shine.

Far as your highlighted response, I understand your opinion but we will just agree to disagree that.

Sure you can, but you consider variables to form a hypothesis.  All variables are not the same.  One thing you can say--DBs are very hard to judge on TV--you can't always see them.  However, I used to play TE in college and I watched a ton of end zone DB/LB film--you get a pretty good idea on who is good and who is not.  While I never said Norman was bad, I said any "greatness" he experienced is a mirage based on other variables.

He has not earned a top 10 pedigree, even though he had a stretch of strong play that coincided with our success which coincided with improved play by our front 7.  It is opinion, by the way, because the only way you can judge him purely is by removing the front 7 and over/under support.  CBs usually don't suddenly get great in season 4, and the great ones were usually great for lengthy periods of time.  He may have covered Julio Jones, but go back and look to see how many times he was on an island--never.  If they coaches thought he was that good, they would use the extra man somewhere else.

I would gladly trade being wrong for a top 10 CB, but I just don't see paying him like one when, in my opinion, he is solid, just not top 10.

Avril was good in Detroit, Bennett was less good in TB than in Seattle.  He's solid not saying he's bad, and I know there's more to a DE than sacks, but I still say his "good" (far from great) production in Seattle is a product of the system and secondary.  Disagree if you want, but there's no "inaccurate" or "untruthful" claim to be made.  This is all opinion, yours and mine, whether you agree or not.

Bennett is probably the best DE in the league, incredibly underrated.

Rewatched the first Atlanta game and he was on an Island quite a bit. It's the only one I've watched and will watch most likely. Regardless of him playing like a top 10 corner last year, he only did it for a partial season and has to replicate that this season to get the payday he's looking for.

If he plays like that again, he'll get himself a 9ish per year type of deal somewhere. Top 20 Cb's are making 8+, so I think that would be the floor if he continues playing the same way.

    • So the last guy who had the job got hired by his former team directly into a role he has no direct experience in?
    • Hard to pass up millions for a couple of days work per week for a coaching gig in the NFL that is 60-80 hours each week during the season and a more relaxed 50 hours a week during the off season. Yeah, I'd love to see him as our DC but hard to see him giving up the cushy job there if he gets it. And he's going to be a great commentator for the network.
    • Really, I think that is where negotiations come in. If you've got a QB getting you to 10 wins but statistically he's not a great performer, then you say look you can take $22 million or you can try it on the market. Because let's face it, out there, any leadership skills that we're seeing aren't going to be on the table, it's just going to be performance and that lands him in the QB2 market, which is much, much less lucrative (although any of us would love that money).  No one is saying that Bryce will be a $50 million QB, barring something short of a miraculous jump. I'm just saying that if we are winning somehow with him at the helm, then it would be fuging stupid to dive back into the rookie pool all over again. Let's say we do hit the 10 win mark, heck, let's call it 11 and a second round in the playoffs. I think we can all say that would be a really uplifting result and one that should be doable if we have good play. What do we do then? Here's what I would offer if I were Morgan and Tepper. $25 million a year for 3 years, each year with up to $10 million in incentives for touchdowns, wins, playoff depth, being under 10 interceptions, completing a full season, passing yardage milestones, taking less than 15 sacks. Look, Bryce isn't a Ferrari, he isn't a Corvette, or a mid-level BMW. He's probably a new Toyota Sienna that will definitely get you somewhere and bring the whole team along with it, no fuss but not a lot of pizazz.  And really, it's about the destination, not about what drove you there.
