The offense is worse than I thought

I hate when people do this, I can find a 3 day old thread of people calling the jaguars a terrible franchise and now all of a sudden "they're good, they have talent" anything to detract from the fact that we struggle against a team that has picked in the top 5,  five straight years.

You know the jags didn't held a team under 300 yards of offense all of last season, but don't worry the panthers would be fine.

sunshine, lollipops and rainbows keep living in fantasy land.

All I know if our offense plays like that again we are gonna get our asses handed to us.

there are people all over this site who were saying that this was a trap game and they would give us trouble.  look at my posts i said that they'd have a lead on us going into the 4th and i'm one of the biggest out of the closet gettledouche apologist sycophants on this site.  obviously it didn't happen of course but i'm starting to believe you kind of have your own choose your own adventure going in terms of whatever narrative you run with.

OMG.

With all the bitching going on you would think we lost of something.

I cant believe this place sometimes.

You do realize that the Jaguars are a professional football team and there are no easy wins in this league right?

That would be something if the overwhelming majority of people here were not licking their chops thinking that since out first game against them would be an easy win! Lok back and see....nearly everyone were creaming their pants with a "sure" win to start the season. We got the win, but considering who we played,. and how our offense played...fans are not wrong to express dissatisfaction about it.

Platitudes

A win is a win.

It is where we are in December not September

if only Olsen doesn't get the penalty.

If only Ginn does not drop the pass

if only Cam sees This or that

at some point, the lack of ability to score in the redzone needs to be fixed, hopefully before we start playing teams that  with QBs who are not no names or second year QBs

take away that interception by Norman, and it's really poor production for a NFL offense. 13 points for a NFL offense is abysmal by any measure

Jax was definitely better than I thought but I also think we played into them.  We blitzed almost never and allowed there QB to dink and dunk way too much. I agree our offense was bad, we could not run the ball and pass plays were troublesome.  We survived this game but it want cut it next week.

My favorite part of the game was in the second half where we just chewed the hell out of the clock, converting on third down when we needed to and slowly marching down the field.  So what if we didn't get a touchdown out of it?  We went up two scores, and that was what we needed.  I'm sure that if we were down, we would have marched with a greater sense of urgency, and maybe had a couple more possessions as a result.  The coaches aren't looking to score 30 a game, they're looking to win.

I think we really missed Bersin at times, just because he has a good connection with Cam and can get the first down.  Supposedly Norwood is a better version of him, and I suspect he will be ready by the Houston game.

I wish we had done more with Funchess, and think we will as he gets more time and reps.

Philly catches the ball.  Corey is a nice young man.  Ginn needs a gallon of stickum.  I was really happy to see Philly play like he did, and I honestly don't blame Shula for calling Ginn's number way more often--wouldn't you given the drops in preseason?

I don't remember too many games last year where teams stacked the box and brought pressure and Cam still had time to scan the field.  People who are bitching about our line need to remember two things.  First, every NFL line gets beat a few times a game.  Second, remember how our line looked last year.  I'm not even mad at Oher for that one time he got beat inside and gave up a sack.  Overall he looked like a legit left tackle.

All off-season, everyone made the correct point that the real key to our success this year was going to be on the offensive line.  Yesterday our line looked good enough for us to be successful.  I can't wait until next Sunday!

As much as I agree with the concerns about our team, I keep coming back to the following two plays:

(1) Greg Olsen TD being called back (2) Ted Ginn dropping an obvious TD

This game could have been 21-3 at the half, which would have obviously changed the dynamic of the game. As much as things went badly, missing two TDs certainly deflated team morale. Call me Candide, but I am not panicking just yet.

I saw what you saw. An offense that came out quickly and moved the ball.  The game shouldn't have been close and wouldn't have been if we had executed better but lets be honest here how many teams really played that great yesterday especially on the road.

I am not only feeling pretty good about the offense but was very impressed with the defense particularly when Luke when down and we held it together. I am looking for good things from here on out and would think any objective Panther fan without an agenda would feel the same.  Jacksonville looked pretty good all preseason until they played us.  That was a tribute to our defense not an indication they will suck all year.

Just out of curiosity, did the poster you quoted call the Jags a terrible franchise?   Otherwise, your comment is irrelevant, since different people have different opinions.  You might find 20 or 30 posters who said that the Jaguars are horrible because of how they performed last year.  IMO, this is a flawed way to predict, since teams usually change quite a bit on a yearly basis.

Fwiw, I don't know how good the Jags are going to be, but I do believe they have a solid defensive line.  And Bortles will be a good qb eventually imo.  And I haven't said anything else during the week leading up to the game.  I did predict that the Jaguars would score 6-9 points, but I thought we would only score 12.

The jags were missing 3 defensive starters how is there D-line good? cause they made our talent less offense struggle?

Bortles was the worst QB in the league last year so I really don't how "great" he's going to be. All I know is we better improve cause if not its going to be a LONG season. You can't use the jags as a measuring stick.
