It's time to start getting Swole on the field

So a few games a year, we seem to see Olsen completely nullified because he has to stay in to block the whole game.  We saw it yesterday.  Why OH WHY, Mr. Shula, can't we go back to the 2 TE sets more often that worked so well before your inept ass started running our offense into the ground?  Brandon Williams is our best blocking TE, by all accounts.  If we put him out there with Olsen, guess what?  We can actually use our best offensive weapon (besides Cam)!  And, as an added bonus, Williams actually has solid hands and is quick for his size!  If we actually let him go out for a pass occasionally to change things up, good things will probably happen.  Getting Dickson some reps is all good and well, he's done some good things, but I think we need to be running 2 TE like 75% of the time at least.  Should help every facet of our offense.  And it effectively masks our team's greatest deficiency: no legit WRs.  So instead of having Tolbert or Brockel in there ineffectively trying to block people, put in someone who can actually block (and catch passes!) in order to free up the only proven pass catching threat on our team instead of having to block for 90% of the plays.  Tolbert is good for some plays a game, we can still use him occasionally.  But I'd like to see more sets of Cam, Stewart (or CAP), two WRs, Olsen and Williams.  I think this lineup will help our offense run a LOT more effectively.

I have been anxiously waiting for Brandon Williams to become that TE that many fans have been talking up for a couple of years now.

But, I've got to be honest, it's not looking too good at all.

I see no reason why we can't run more 2 TE sets with Olsen, and Dickson though.

I can't say someone sucks bc they never see the field. I think he would be better then Ed but again he plays in real games so I can't prove that and no one can disprove it. A lot of backups are backups their whole careers and then switch teams and start and vola furs out they were good the whole time

How about put him out there first, we all know we have stubborn gameplanners, and try something different instead of status quo or default bullshit!

All of you that say he can't play are hilarious.  Status quo is what y'all like.

I say replace Tolbert with Swole as a JOAT while we play two TE sets so Greg could be split wide and also to give Cam better protection, Stewart better run blocking, and Cam better dump options or allow Swole to motion as a wide to run go routes or post routes.  But Jesus Christ be creative, we have options believe it or not.  Chip Kelly does not break offensive rules but creates new boundaries that other coaches dare not touch which makes him a leader in the sense through his innovation and approach to the game.

Dickson, Swipe, and Olsen all 64 or taller.  Why don't we use our strength to mask our weakness.  Our TE crew is above average!  Plus defenses cannot guess run or pass with the set-up with the lack of WR presence.  Will we be slower yes but what is our goals: TOP domination which helps our ailing defense, first downs manageability, uncertainty for defenses, easier touchdowns, and a stronger ground game.  Sounds like a solution that could help our ineptitude we call offense.  TE split wide for stronger blocking, more schemes, and just so much more possibilities.

Here are some painful reminders.^^^

Also bring back Marcus and let's give this idea a go.  Panthers be brave and be bold, come on Shula you know you want to.

I agree. Creative offense is what we need. Please do not read "creative offense" as "gimmick" or "tricky".  We have an identity, meaning, we know what we want to do.  The trouble is that we're asking an offensive staff of coaches to be creative and utilize personnel in the best way, highlighting their strengths and therefore improving the offense. Our offensive staff goes by the philosophy of "this is what we do, now go do that". It's a square peg-round hole scenario. It's lazy.

When will our head coach realize that competent offense doesn't hamper your defense? It's not an "either/or" situation.

First of all, this isn't some infatuation with the guy.  He knows how to block.  I'm saying put him in there to block.  That's not infatuation, that's common sense.

Second of all, people saying he sucks, can't play, etc...based exactly on what???  He never plays.  If you're going to try to use that as "evidence" then you better be real fuging glad that Silatolu and Chandler got hurt last year or you could say the same thing about Remmers and Norwell.  Not getting playing time on a RR led team =/= sucks.

Third of all, the talk about Dickson or Lucas are COMPLETELY missing the point.  The point is Williams is a good BLOCKER.  Dickson and Lucas aren't.  BLOCKING is why I want him to get into the two TE sets.  If he finally gets some passes thrown his way?  Icing on the cake.  But the point of getting him out there is to BLOCK so that Olsen DOESN'T HAVE TO AS MUCH.  Olsen is our only receiving threat.  You want to put in Dickson or Lucas so Olsen can stay in and block and THEY can go out and catch passes?  Ludicrous.

    • Not exactly sure that is an honest assesment of the talent he had to work with that year. Olsen had over 1100 yards that season making the PB, Stewart had close to 1100 total yards also going to the PB. He had Kalil at C who went to the PB, Trai Turner at RG who also went to the PB, and Michael Oher at LT who played well enough that the Panthers offered him a new contract the following year. I wouldn't call that a trash OL. He also played with a defense that was stacked with talent as well.   "The thing we are doing better this time around is actually surrounding our #1 overall draft pick QB with talent vs. asking him to completely carry the offense. I just hope that effort is leading us to realize that the guy isn't even good enough to get carried." Please.... Did you not read the list of names Newton had to work with his rookie season. I guess you missed it so I will post it again for you... Steve Smith (PB), Greg Olsen (PB), Brandon LaFell, Ted Ginn JR, Deangelo Williams (PB), Jonathan Stewart (PB), Jordan Grossn (PB), Ryan Kalil (PB) on the offensive side and then he had Luke Kuechly (PB), Jon Beason (PB), Thomas Davis (PB), Star Lotulelei, Kawann Short ( PB ),Charles Johnson, Greg Hardy (PB ), Mike Mitchell, Josh Norman (PB)  For comparison, here is who Young had his first year.  Chuba Hubbard, DJ Chark, Jonathan Mingo, Adam Thielen, Hayden Hurst, Ikem Ekwonu, Chandler Zavala, Bradley Bozeman, Nash Jensen and Taylor Morton. Not a single PB player on the list and most of them aren't even playing any longer. Additionally, his HC was fired during the season and the defense was as bad as the offense.  You might not like the comparison but saying Newton had to completely carry the offense isn't exactly fair to the 4 pro bowlers on offense who played with him that year.
    • That's why I say we have to keep looking. Even if you believe Bryce is the guy, KP and Grier are not and who knows if King is anything more than a gimmick player, we should be active in improving our 2nd QB spot. Season ending injuries happen, and you don't just want to roll over and give it up. How many starters have we seen come from the ranks of backup? Having 2 potential starting QBs is one of the best problems we could have.
    • Eh, it’s more on how bad the refs are. Some of these calls against the canes are no calls
