I have no idea.. the new Bobcats/Hornets suxs...my brain cant comprehend what u r trying to say....

I would say in Lieu of what I think u might be saying is that the Panther Management is doing a great job on rebuilding with Gettlemagic..

Where as Jordan is sucking with the New Hornets with Cho or whatever is name is..

but I am more concerned for the Panthers... am I right  or wrong?

Bobcats?! Wash your filthy mouth.. Literally worst NBA name and logo/colors in the history of the NBA lol. The Hornets reference wasnt relevant to the post, just pumped basketball season is about to start and wanted to give a shout out.

Most of us live, to a certain extent, live vicariously through our favorite team and its most talented players.

youre talking deitification or some other nonsensical version of the old Grecian/Roman gladiators. I get your point, but we just want to see our guys play and win in doing so.

give your praise to The Lord Jehova  and be glad you haven't been banned from this forum because these are some awful threads, PU.

Id love to see you saving your comments and opinions to some of the more appropriate threads than continuing to flagellate yourself on the reg. just food for thought.

nice post.

there's no question the nfl is structure-oriented in that the talent behind schemes often transcends the talent of the individual player playing in it. also, the fact that so much weight is placed on the quarterback in today's league means that for the majority of positions, the loss of a single talent - spectacular or not - can be pretty easily schemed around. we're seeing the panthers (shula, even!) do this with success.

if your quarterback goes down, though? god rest your soul. no scheme in the world can truly save you there.

It can if DA is your backup QB.

I think this also translates into how people follow each sport. For example, when a popular player leaves the Panthers, let's use Mushin Mohammad as an example, the fans do not become Bears fans. They generally wish him well and remain with the Panthers.

But when a popular player leaves a basketball team, let's use Carmelo Anthony, fans may follow that player to whatever team he's now on.

Part of it may have to do with the NBA marketing player over team for decades in a much more direct way than the NFL. And part of it may have to do with one player having a much greater effect on the product in the NBA v the NFL.

Personally, I like LeBron and have liked Miami since they started as a franchise. When he went there that was great. When he left, I still like Miami but I also root for him as well. I don't really have animosity for an NBA team (I did when I was 12), but I do have animosity for NFL teams regardless of what player is on those teams.

TLDR hell hath indeed frozen over and I agree with PU post. Memes are still funny.

I agree with your post mostly.  I think its not that simple.

Position/Team Depth:   For instance I think position plays a huge roll.  QB is much more team effecting than WR.  However another QB can come in and win if the gap isn't so huge.  Using us as an example with Derek Anderson, or recently Josh McCown played well enough to win. Luke Kuechly isn't missed as much due to the fact that Klein isn't so much of a drop off.  KB isn't missed as much due to the fact that as in Ginn isn't remotely as effective, his speed /play this year makes the loss not seem as bad.  Flip side, everyone missed Jordan Gross because the huge disparity between his play and Bell at LT.  Norwell is so much better than Silatolu that he seems like he is going to the hall of fame.

Team Philosophy:   If you are a defensive juggernaut, then losing key players on the offense won't hurt as much as a losing a key defensive player.

Coaching:  I think this is the most important aspect.  As the salary cap, better scouting, and better player development in the college/highschool games develop,  I think the gap in talent isn't huge anymore for any team.  Certain teams are competitive regardless of injury/suspension of personnel.  Its coaching.  Coaching for situation, preparing better than everyone else makes the difference.  I watched that special on the patriots and they talked about how they practiced for that last defensive play in the Superbowl so many times.  I don't necessarily feel confident that we would have.  But I could be wrong.

In conclusion, yes some players are more valuable.  Some players are rated based on how big the gap between that player and the player behind him.   Some players are just valued more by because their backups or the players they replaced sucked so bad.

Over all good post man.  Keep the good ones coming.
