Ron Rivera - WFNZ audio - "Is Shula better?"

Interesting audio on WFNZ with Ron Rivera.  He gets asked about whether Shula has changed and why it feels as if the offensive game is flowing better.  Interesting discussion.

Also, speaking of Ron, you've just GOT to watch his USAA commercials posted at BBR.  LOLOLOLOL.  Especially #6.  Maybe everyone else has seen these, but since I'm overseas, these were new to me.

Asked about his commercials and that he loved the one with the dryer, but his wife always knows and Ron agreed.

Also asked about not getting respect, if he thinks it's unfair and does he use it as fuel. Ron said he does use it as fuel sometimes and thinks a lot of our guys don't get the respect they deserve, but is more than happy to fly under the radar and keep getting wins.

Talked about the maturation process of Cam, Josh and how they are stepping up their game. Says they were very raw coming in and just needed time.

Talked about Cam is more comfortable in the system and has learned how to see what the defenses are doing and how to take advantage of what the defense is giving him.

Asked about Shula and does he think he is doing anything different. Ron said he thinks Shula is doing a good job and nothing has really changed since years past. More that they are playing to Cams strengths and Cam learning overall.

Talked about making changes in Saints game due to Saints not doing what they expected so they had to make adjustments.

Talked about Delaire, and Ron said he thought Allen did well under circumstances and Delaire was someone they was high on and knew about him during the draft and glad they could get him.

Said he talked to Luke and Luke himself said he is close.

It's a good listen. Should check it out.

Kinda funny how quiet the Shula haters have been this year. Hmmmmm...

I wouldn't say quiet, but at 4-0 it's more whining than shouting and mostly a carry over from last season. In fact even last year the anti Shula crowd had to quiet down once we won the division and a playoff game.

That's what I'm saying, instead of Shula haters eating crow and making threads saying "damn I was wrong about Shula so far" they just stay silent.

But God knows the second he draws up a screen play to Bersin on 3rd and long, there will be "Shula's holding us back" threads...

well yeah, I mean sometimes I think "wouldn't it be funny to throw a screen pass to Star and watch him declete a DB?" But then I remember I'm not in a position to make such a dumb call.

But I digress...

It's very hard to justify a good bitch session when we are rocking the best record.

The defence is masking the offences problems imo however shula and cam are doing a great job of not turning the ball over and capitalizing on what the defences are giving them.  Tried and true way to win football games.  Will be interesting to see what happens when we have to comeback against a high powered offence.

Ron just confirmed for folks what I have been saying. The offense is going well because we stayed with Shula's system so Cam could master it and Shula and Cam could adapt it to Cams strengths. As Cam gets better the offense  clicks better and Shula can let him control what we do like elite quarterbacks like Brees and Rodgers. They run the offense on the field that the OC designed and taught the quarterback. They look good when the quarterback looks good. They are linked to each other.

Exactly.

I also read an article where Cam has multiple plays to call out of each formation.  Shula is calling the formation and the primary play.  However, Cam can audible out of the play based on what he sees.  I really think the difference is Cam's maturation as a QB.  He is seeing the defense better and understanding what they are giving him.  He is now making good reads.

Why complain when he's improved this season?

Its not a "we hate Shula", it's a "we want Shula to actually be a serviceable OC."

There's a difference.

He hasn't improved, we've played some of the NFL's worst defenses, and I'm sure the Saints will be the worst in NFL history again.

He calls the same shitty plays. If you need to see how stupid his play calling is, look at how he called 2 play action passes with 15 seconds left when we needed to score. Like anyone would buy we'd actually be running up the gut in that situation and play action did anything more than make the play slower to develop.
