Chancellor fined for spearing Kalil

The NFL should implement the NCAA rule for blatant hits. In college you can called for targeting that comes with an automatic ejection.

I agree with the rule on paper but to see it at work at the college level makes me want a few kinks worked out before the NFL adopts it.  Guys are getting kicked out of games where there is clearly no targeting.

I understand what you mean. Every refs definition of "blatant" could be different.  They have to find  a way to make sure it's caled uniformly.  Im a Tarheel fan, and there was a GT player called for targeting a Heels WR and ejected, and it was the wrong call.

Yeah, I remember that play.  The penalty is too great to get it wrong.  UCLA lost a LB (spposedly one of their best players) against BYU in the first quarter on a really bad one.  He was tackling the QB low, but the QB slid and their heads reached the same spot at the same time.  FSU lost a guy in one game where the guy ducked into the hit.  I can teach fourth graders that in dodgeball if you are ducking it is not a head shot but football college football cannot figure it out.

Maybe it sshouldn't be a mandatory ejection. Maybe it should be up to the discretion of the officiating crew like some personal fouls are now.Refs could stillmake wrong call ocassionally but there would some sort of accountability if a trend was noticed.

Perhaps like in hockey but instead of 2 minutes, you can't play for a quarter, full half,  or a few series. But then again you have players that wouldn't give a fug and would gladly accept that.

I am all for ejections for blatant personal fouls as long as there is consensus.

This is my proposal. 15 yard penalty and...

7 officials on the field. # of officials who deem it intentional:

1 - out 1 play

2 - out 1 drive

3 - out 2 drives

4 - out 4 drives

5 - out 8 drives

6 - out for game

7 + replay booth - out remainder of game and additional game (opponents choice). This can take effect after a game too if the NFL Officiating department determines it to be blatant.

The opponents choice option for an additional game makes this stronger. If it is a divisional rival they can choose the next game they face that team, or use it in a regular season game that directly impacts their post season chances.

You will see this end quickly, and 1 official alone cannot screw this up since they do not have the power.

So, in this case since it was missed on the field, Kam Chancelor got away with it in game, but he would now be fined and the Panthers can choose the next game he misses.

This goes for any personal foul. So, if a player throws a punch or shoves a ref, all the refs have to confer and would have to say they saw it. This would have meant Kuechly would have missed 1 play or 1 drive instead of being kicked out of the game for unknowingly shoving one official who engaged him and flagged him after pulling him from behind.

Meanwhile, players like Kam Chancellor, Ndamukong Suh, and Vontaze Burfict would miss an entire game at the least by opponents choice even if they were not flagged for trying to take out players. Essentially, they are taking themselves out for a game.

Players who are labeled as repeat offenders would increase the missed games by opponents choice. Once you are labeled a pattern offender (can increase in levels) by the league, your missed games go to 2, 4 ,8 , 16 and then 32. If you reach a level 5 offender level, then no team will want to sign you.

I understand what you are trying to say.  However, your suggestion won't work.  The officials are watching different areas of the field and for different things on every play.  Therefore, usually only two officials at most would be in a position to see the play.

Good idea  just not practical.

Honestly im 100% ok with that hit, if you are the box safety its your job to light up any mofo comming at you. You lay down the wood on people so they think twice about running it up in the middle of your defence. That hit made me wish we had young chris harris on the squad.

If you ever played safety you know what the deal is, you go full speed and light up anyone comming at you, that includes lineman.

That is fine if you lead with the shoulder.  Deliberately spearing with the crown of your helmet is illegal.  It is poor sportsmanship and dangerous for both individuals involved.  Anyone who has played peewee football can tell you this.

    • It's worth noting that we started playing something that looked like football after going down 17-0 against the Dolphins.  Up to that point we had rushed the ball 3 times and Bryce had two turnovers.   Then we ran it 5 straight times with Rico and he started cracking off some big gains and led to our first touchdown.  Another 37 yards of rushing later, Bryce goes 1 yard complete, incomplete, incomplete to get that field goal before halftime.  Then we committed big time to the run in the second half and played some really nice complimentary football.  The Panthers had stumbled on a formula, and it started with Rico being crazy productive.  Something they only learned because Chubba was injured and Bryce started that game so poorly they were forced to lean on Rico. Fast foward to Dallas, they essentially lean into the same game plan against the Cowboys and I think everyone was surprised by how quickly it started to look complimentary.  In my opinion the productive offense really helped the defense as well.  We played quite solid against a top offense. Finally we make our way to the Jets and Bills, Chubba's return.  You can't say the low scoring affair and return to ineffective football against the Jets was all on Chubba, they were indeed a better defense and so was Buffalo.  But the production difference between the two backs in both games was both visually and statistically obvious.  The bigger picture is the offense took a major step back as well.  They are other moving parts and it's isn't all one thing, BY9>Dalton by a decent margin at this point.   But yeah, Rico's vision and athleticism is just better than Chubba and it jumps at you.
    • First day in 3 weeks my pain started to dwindle just a tiny bit.  Got switched from hydrocodone to post-shingles pain patches.  My insurance refused to pay for my patches as I’m too young for shingles per them.  I also need a prescription to get shingles shot and insurance also won’t pay for it even thought I just had shingles and in high risk to get it again.
