Funchess losing snaps weekly

Per Black & Blue review. His snap count is now at 30% (three fewer snaps then the Seahawks game),  It appears that the confidence level the coaches have in him is waning. Bersin has only five snaps since Cotchery has returned. At this point, I would like to see Bersin instead of Funchess. Funchess is more athletic and a bigger target no doubt. But what good is it if he isn't making plays.

Funchess goes over the middle and drops balls, Bersin does the same but makes the catch. Funchess has time to develop and he just isn't ready yet. We need all the play makers we have on the field right now. Some will say Cotchery and Bersin are the same player. Yes they are (they both catch the damn ball)  When they rotate Cotchery out, I would rather have Bersin in right now. First downs are first downs.

Funchess was a project WR.  I think the coaching staff knew when we drafted him, it would take a year or two for him to produce.  The kid is only 21 years old and has a lot of time left on the team to learn the ins and outs of the position.  It is unfair to judge him this year, being thrust into the starting role due to Benjamin's injury.  Hopefully, things start to click by the playoffs.

I agree he hIs a project.  Don't force the issue with him this year. K.B will be back next year and Funchess will have a young mentor to learn from (along with the vets that may still be around). No reason to push it, he is not ready.

I had to check to make sure Bersin was still on the roster. Haven't seen him lately. Your stats would indicate the staff has even less confidence in him than Funchess.

Here's another possibility. Ginn has been catching the ball well lately, and we all know Olsen is the 'go to' guy, so with an offense that doesn't throw a ton of passes, there are only so many to go around. I think loss of confidence may be speculation on your part, rather than dead cert reality.

    • This is one of my key concerns lost in the sauce that is the neverending conversation about him evading pressure and the OL. Eventually any QB is going to have to step up into the pocket and show the defense they can still beat them even if they get through. We have a limited QB who cannot consistently do this and as such we are relegated to going back and forth about how successful he was at evading pressure but we have little else to write home about. Tyler Shough stepped up into the pocket and made plays despite being pressured and sacked. He's played in about 35 less games than Bryce Young. That is a problem. And isn't just going to go away. The Bucs are going to do the same thing after watching the film.
    • Oh, absolutely! That doesn't absolve the absolute dogshit hockey that the team played in front of him, though. Only Cane that played well tonight was Bradly Nadeau.
    • Thanks for illustrating my point.  No one in the last several pages of this discussion is suggesting we should hang on to him, but anytime someone says anything less than "take him out back and shoot him" you act like they are. That's either you not understanding what you're reading or just being a nimrod because you can't keep up. (I would have said 'or just sh-tposting' but you're way too emotional on this topic for that) Either way, the result is the same 😆
