Panthers D: How much of it is Ron and how much of it is McDermott?

A question I was mulling today while watching the various games waiting for tomorrow is the thread title.  How much of the Panthers defensive success can be attributed to McDermott, and how much of it is Ron?  We are consistently a very good defensive team and while I know the players we have don't hurt, you can't do anything without good coaching.  Discuss?

Calling it Ron's D diminishes the great job these guys are doing.

This is McDermott's D.  I think Ron does what most head coaches do and let's the coordinators do their thing...otherwise why have any coordinators?

Haven't heard McDermott's name mentioned for a head coaching job lately. This may change soon.

I think its mainly Rivera. Either way are D isn't that complicated, we don't use a lot of exotic packages

Ron will probably win coach of the year if we continue at this pace.

Not sure, but the fact is Rivera has had two #1 defenses with two different teams and different schemes.  I'd say he has a large part of setting it up and McDermott probably calls a lot of game-day calls.

Ron put the guys in place, but that shouldn't diminish the top notch job his guys have done.

Rivera.  That doesn't discredit McD b/c he calls it.  Ron lays the foundation though.  But if McD wasn't good the D wouldn't be good.  Ron seems pretty hands off with game day playcalls

I just want to point out how nice it is to argue over who we can give credit to rather than who we can blame.

Yet, to take credit away from Ron does him a disservice as well.  He put the staff together based on the system he wanted to run.  He has built top-notch D's every where hes been.

Kudos to the individual Coordinators and position coaches but it all starts at the top.  Ron knows a thing or two about a good Defense.
