Some Norman respect

On NFL network today, on a couple of different shows, was talking about fantasy football.  The first time I heard them say to get rid of Julio Jones, because in fantasy playoffs he would have to face Norman 2 times.  On a later show, heard them say not to start Randall Cobb this  week because of Norman.

Is this cool or what?!!!!

but what about Ricky Manning Jr and Chris Gamble?

In case this is a serious post, Manning was nowhere near as effective as Josh even before the rules change rendered his style obsolete. Gamble actually did perform on shutdown level for a couple of years but never got the attention, and he was not a physical presence in the run/screen game like Norman is.

Ricky manning Jr. had a real hot playoff streak but wasn't considered shut down.  Chris Gamble was good but wasn't considered shutdown.  Josh Norman is the only one that I can remember when people were saying "Oh No, Josh Norman is going to guard him, he might as well not wear pads".

I don't think Gamble would tackle as well as Josh. He wouldn't stick his nose in there. But I remember him being very good in coverage.

how about eric davis?

Davis was a good-to-very good CB here, getting I want to say 5 picks a year every year during his time here. I'd rank him up there with the best Carolina CBs after Gamble and Norman, with Gamble currently at the top only because he did it for multiple seasons. Norman could eclipse that if his production continues, and that's no knock on Chris.

I always felt like Gamble was perceived as a worse tackler than he actually was but Norman is definitely the best in that category, no contest.

I've seen Josh get in there and blow things up. I don't remember Gamble doing that...but then again it's been a long time and I hate Ohio St...I'm looking at you Ginn and Brown.

U fan here...still salty after 2003.

Gamble was damn good and played during a time when Carolina's philosophy was much more man coverage with a front 7 much less talented than today's. Norman deserves every bit of praise he's getting but Gamble was/is criminally underrated, partially becuase guys lile Woodson, Asomghua, and Revis were taking all the press. One example: http://www.derp/2012/4/5/2927003/chris-gamble-is-awesome-advanced-charting-praises-panthers-cb

Gamble was a great corner, but he wasn't flashy or skrong so his play doesn't stand out in my memory.  Unfortunately, what I remember most about him was that ridiculous botched punt return where he threw that pathetic lateral that basically cost us the game in Minnesota.
