Miami Hurricanes Interested in Shula

With success like this, coordinators are going to begin being looked at by other organizations. That's how it goes.

Shula has gotten a lot of anger directed at him on this board. Let me just be clear here, he definitely had things he needed to improve on, just like our offensive players, and our QB. The reason we are 8-0 is because both him, and our QB adequately addressed that in the offseason. Think back to our red zone percentage at one point, it was dreadful. Part of that to me was poor OL play, and general lack of execution, which we improved on there obviously, but the other part was not very good or opportunistic play calling. I have to give credit to Shula for realizing what needs to be corrected, and going ahead, and doing it. The result is, even without our #1 WR, we still have one of the better offenses in the league right now.

I do not think that Shula is as easily replaceable as some of his detractors talk about. But on the flip side, you don't want to get too far ahead of yourself either. I think going beyond being an OC, and just a general coach for players, he's done a good job with developing Newton, that was never really up for debate.

Than Shula has done an AMAZING job getting Cam to this point that he can run the offense, and has also been amazing getting him prepared week in and week out to know what plays to run when.

I have mostly been supportive of Shula, but this paragraph of "Newton controlling the offense" has convinced me more than ever what a good job Shula has done.

It takes a heck of a coach to get a young QB to that point.  Wow.

I just hope when we eventually have a bad game you put criticism where it is due.  Cam Newton.  After all he is the OC now.

Touché

I know I am late to the party, but I would like to add something that has not be mentioned as of yet. The ability of this coaching staff to self evaluate and improve. We were barely average in the Red Zone last year. This year, we have improved the play calling and execution. I give Shula, Rivera, and Cam credit for that.

Sure there may be better OCs out there than Shula. But for what we want, Shula does a very good job. Cam is comfortable, and it is showing big time. Be careful what you wish for. Because, bringing in a new OC does not automatically mean we are going to set the world on fire. There is just as good of a chance it takes a while to acclimate to the new coach, and, Cam may never feel as comfortable with the new guy as he is with Shula. Although, there very well could be success with a new OC. But when we are doing so well, why rock the boat?

Ah hellz. Some folks are never going to be happy with Shula. No matter how well Cam is doing. To them, Shula will never get any credit for what Cam is becoming.

Cam has really begun to come into his own with this offense.

Replacing Shula with anyone outside of the team, would set the offense and Cam, back.

I suppose you can depend on the defense more than ever, while we wait for rhe new offense to take flight.  If it ever does.

Or, we just add more to it next season by retaining the current system, and bringing KB back.
