Packers...

I didn't watch last night's game (1 a.m. in my time zone..), so am only reading about it now.  WOW.  Really makes me thankful for our defense holding off Aaron Rodgers at the end of our game.  That man sure can pull off come back wins.  But not against us this year!

The facemask call was borderline, but I don't think it was a terrible call.  Rogers head moved slightly, so it might have been pulled a little bit.   Had it happened at any other point in the game, Detroit fans would grumble, Packer fans would agree, and no one else would care.  Since it happened at a critical point, it gets more looks.  It probably shouldn't be a penalty, but according to the rules, it might be enough of one to get called.

The call absolutely was a bad call.  However, at full speed during the play it absolutely looked like a facemask....and thus why it was called.  The refs do not get the benefit of slow motion instant replay on penalties.

Hey! Not fair! While I searched for video you edited your post. :)

Rogers was most definitely beyond the line of scrimmage & would've not been able to throw a forward pass. But I found the video. Watch it yourself. Neither Rogers' helmet nor chin strap were twisted until he got up off the grass. Definitely NOT while he was on his way down to the grass. The face mask was not grabbed. It was a very bad call.

Yea I went back and rewatched and saw that he was past the los. Still, a penalty like that has to be called real time and in real time, live, there's no way that couldn't be called.  I always try to look at things like that from both perspectives and make my opinion based on which perspective I would be most upset about. And in this case if it hadn't been called and I was a Packers fan is be much more upset than if I were a Lions fan and it was.

Nah. Still just a bunch of stat pounding.

You can take a bunch of games that any team lost, pick out one stat and say "oh here's why" when the truth is really those stats are just common to losing games.

If you really want to trust that kind of stuff, would you like to see what some of those stat mavens have to say about Cam Newton?

Keep pushing the idea that Rodgers isn't clutch if you want. Like I said before, I doubt you're going to get very far with it. And no, this stat doesn't bolster your argument.

Wow!

Terrible Hail Mary-Redzone defense by Detroit.

GB, had a wall of receivers in front of Detroit, with their DB's/Defenders behind.

How's that possible!? And Rodgers high pointed the ball by his lonesome self.

I guess Detroit and Jim Caldwell, will always be: Well, Detroit and Jim Caldwell? LOL

I can't call that clutch by Aaron Roders (though fortunate). That was Richard Rodgers and the poor Detroit defense.

The Lions are bad. Won't dispute that.

But to be fair, you could apply the "this team didn't win the game, the other team lost it" argument to about any game, including many of ours.

How many people said our Seattle win was only because they botched those secondary signals?

lol at thinking the Packers aren't a threat in the playoffs.

Anything can happen, but if I were to GUESS, I say GB gets the 3 seed while Seattle gets the 6, GB wins at home, goes to Arizona, and loses.  We get NFCE/Minny winner and Arizona as our two playoff games.  Too good to be true?  I say most probable.

That would be most ideal imo as well. We better hope for a Minnesota win this weekend against Seattle and then when Minnesota and GB play later this year a GB win.

Sure would be nice if GB and Seattle played in the WC round with winner going to AZ. I still think we get either Seattle or GB in the divisional round though.

To your example, Carolina had already completed 3 TD drives of 80 yards in the game, so little reason to think that they wouldn't have scored again even had the signals not been mixed. Between the penalty and the absolutely boneheaded defense, Detroit just choked on the last 2 plays that happened to allow GB to come back. I feel like when a complete lack of Football 101 intelligence and technique results in a game-winning TD, the game was lost by the loser as much as won by the winner.

To GB's credit though, they executed a perfect Hail Mary... that said, there's a reason it's called a Hail Mary.
