He's showed more than enough to warrant us not going and trying to get "a #2." Of course it would be nice to be loaded with WRs like the Cardinals but I disagree that we need another one to be a dynasty. There are other positions I think we need more to continue to be this successful long term.

I am not sure that Funchess has shown more than enough, but that is opinion.  He has shown promise and is developing.  I based my comment on what we have and know.  We do not want to use Ginn next year if avoidable, and he will be 31.  Cotchery is on the decline.  Brown is not a given.  With only Benjamin and an improving Funchess but not yet a #2, do you just assume we will be set at WR?  I do not think so.  We are not where we should be yet.  Today should have convinced anyone of that.  Nothing wrong with 2 competing for the #2 job.  I want weapons.  Sure, we have other positions to address, but after DE, SS, and CB, WR  is a need.  We shall see.  I see your point, but I am not going to sit around and wait on Funchess.

Ginn is signed through next year. Also, I'm not sure who you'd want returning punts if not him.

Look, we all know these drops infuriate us.  But Ginn continues to man up and make plays for us.  5 -80 with 2 TDs is a solid afternoon.  Shoulda, Coulda been more. Got it.

He is never going to be a Ricky Proehl or even Brestin Bersin but he is a lethal weapon and though he has his drops (and god knows I cussed him last night)  I am still happy he is on this team because he is making a difference for us.

For the record, I thought Brown could take his duties.  At this point, I know I was wrong.

Ted Ginn is a #3/4 and a return specialist asked to be our primary receiver. He drops some, yes, but we know that. We also know we couldn't expect him to be Kelvin Benjamin. I'm glad we have him though. Ginn has catching issues, but he still had 2 TD catches. He still consistently gets open over the top.

As a coach, I don't think you look at this and think "We have to cut him." You look at this, you use him as a punt returner next year and use him to take the tops off of defenses.

Benjamin

Funchess

Brown

Ginn

That doesn't look too bad for me. Just remember, he has had to take on a lot this year along with Philly Brown. They are handling it well. People forget he was brought in to return punts, not be a primary receiver. Cut him some slack.

Now can someone please teach him to look the ball in?

the first picture was the throw Ginn was held on- no way of knowing whether or not he makes that catch without that hold

Ginn doesn't have a problem catching deep balls when he can body catch them, it's when he has to make a basket catch (hence the first drop) that the issue arises

I understand that, and I never mentioned that I would not keep him on as a PR/5th WR.  However, I am focusing on the starting spots.  If Ginn is in our top 5, we are vulnerable.  I love him as a deep threat, etc., but he is 30--ain't getting better.

And the contract status is not an issue because he signed cheap and there is not a lot of up front money, if I remember correctly.  I love him catching punts.

Funch will be a "#2." Him and KB are a really solid group of starting receivers. Brown/Ginn/Cotchery rotating at the 3rd and 4th spots is a really solid group of receiver there. Wouldn't hurt to grab some more WR help after the year but it's far from our most glaring need after the year.

To add to our exchange yesterday, I will say that since watching him at OTAs and then the route he ran for 6 yesterday, there has been a tremendous improvement.

Ginn has dropped body catches as well. He's just one of those guys whose head gets in the way when he's wide open, as he rarely drops them when Cam is zinging them in and he doesn't have time to think.

that's a good point, I think I remember him dropping a body catch against Jax
