Cam Newton winning MVP would be historic

No black QB has ever won NFL MVP outright

http://thebiglead.com/2015/12/11/cam-newton-mvp-media-vote-black-qb/

There have been many excellent black QBs in NFL history – Warren Moon, Randall Cunningham and Donovan McNabb in recent years come to mind – but only one has shared the MVP: Steve McNair in 2003. He split the award with Peyton Manning.

Cunningham was the runner-up three times. In 1998 his Vikings were 15-1, but the award went to Terrell Davis, who rushed for 2,008 yards. In 1988, Cunningham finished 2nd to Boomer Esiason. There was some controversy in 1990 when he was the runner-up to Joe Montana.

McNabb was the runner-up in 2000 to Marshall Faulk.

Moon always put up monster stats, but the best he could do was 3rd in 1990....

....The oldest MVP in NFL history was 37 – by both Rich Gannon and Peyton Manning – but the award for Brady would further help legitimize his case as the greatest QB in NFL history.

At the expense of the guy who should win the MVP, Cam Newton.

anyone know the youngest MVP?  Would that possibly be Cam?

Don't know for sure but pretty positive Marino won one under like 24. And Jim Brown was probably pretty young when he won them real early on.

I don't really see it as a significant moment for racial reasons. But it is significant for our region, franchise, and league. Cam Newton is changing the way we view the QB position. But it's not because of his race, it's because of who he is as an athlete and a person.

When he came into the league many speculated he would revolutionize the position. I think he has. Russel Wilson got a shot because of Cam's success the year prior. Guys like Mariotta and Tannehill got a bump in value based off Cam's success as a mobile QB coming out of a college offense. But this year Cam really turned it up a notch with his mental game. Making changes at the line of scrimmage and manipulating the defense. Everyone talks about his passing percentage yet our offense moves the ball so well. He has completely destroyed the mold for "elite" QB play.

Just remember, teeray, that we have been assured by many experts in this here forum that the media is NEVER racist.

NEVER EVER EVER EVER.

    • Watching games this year again and Bryce missed a wide open XL many times and some of them were in the endzone. I get the kid has mental lapses and hasn't broke out yet, but this is year three on a rookie deal! Cutting bait now is too early. If he hasn't gained anymore trust from his QB, posted any highlights, little production, or outright gets beat out then we can talk movement.
    • Samesies   I truly may just cash completely out of Panther football if we give him a long term deal that isnt necessary.  I have watched NFL for 50 years now and I can without a shadow of a doubt say you cannot win consistently with BY.  Way too many limitations to deal with.   I may come back around in 3 years when the inevitable happens and all parties are either cut and/or fired.  Giving him a deal before this season so you hopefully can get him cheaper in case he "blows up" or if you truly believe that he will has to be the most moronic decision a gm can make when the evidence is laid before you with different players
    • This is the one! I was at that game and all KB had to do was lay down on the corner after the pick or make an obvious tag while he was down. He had already ran a lazy route. Then if Cam would've just walked to the sideline like most elite QBs instead of trying to make the tackle.  A lot of people bring up the TJ Watt hit, but he just reaggravated a bunch of scar tissue from that play. And every Cam hater said that the running did him in and it was a dive tackle attempt on an interception that initially began the shoulder deterioration. He still went to New England later and would've got them in the playoffs had their A team not sat out the covid year. We quit on him too early. But hey how good was Teddy? Am I right?
