This thread is always great.

Some say they'd stop watching football, others say they'd stop liking the Panthers. God forbid you spend a few bucks and travel to see your team play.

Like you'd travel several thousand miles on mooseback to see Carolina play

SC has grown significantly too, in sheer population, economic prowess, and fan support. And the team's continued success over these few years will only cement the support in both states. Think about it, what is something we had in our 21 years that the Rams didnt, aside from a great owner? We've had more success. More playoff appearances. Our needle is trending upward faster than the Rams needle is. Sure, the Rams had a devout fanbase too. But even for devout fanbases, it's hard to support a team through a decade of mediocrity, especially when the last half of that decade is comsumed with whispers that the team might leave.

We've had enough playoff appearances in our 21 years that we were able to keep the fanbase's attention. Even in both of our rock bottom years, '01 and '10, there was enough young talent to keep the fans engaged and hopeful, plus we've never seriously had the distraction of the team considering leaving.

Think about it guys, we are in the process of building a tradition here in Carolina. These next couple years will separate us from teams like the Rams, and put us in the category of long-time traditions like the Packers, Bears, and Steelers.

This narrative really needs to die. Fan support for the Panthers may be fairweather along the Savannah River, but everywhere else in SC, the Panthers are THE team. I've visited many parts of South Carolina, and all the main population centers are blue-blooded Panther fans. You always have your sprinkling of dissidents, but I used to live in Central Pennsylvania too, and the sprinkling of fans of other teams was about the same. There's a reason Nikki Haley declare a state "Panther Day" in August. It's our team too. Hell, when I go to games, alot of the people I meet and talk to come from south of the border.

I'm not mad. Lol. I just think the narrative that the Panthers main fan base is NC is misled at this point. Wouldn't surprise me if training camp never leaves Wofford, I might add.

The lies you tell....most people in south carolina give a damn about the Panthers...its mostly redskins. cowboys and college.

I agree with you too about that narrative needing to die. Hell, fan support in NC is fair weather and the team is based there.

The Panthers represent the Carolina's because Jerry Richardson said so. If the team was just for NC, he would've named the team the North Carolina Panthers or Charlotte Panthers.

Interestingly enough, prior to the Rams moving back last night, the team that was closest to moving to Los Angeles was.....the Seattle Seahawks in 1996. The team had moved all their equipment to SoCal in the offseason (of course this was a power move) but all the other owners revolted against then owner and the team was ultimately bought by Paul Allen.

The NFL wanted a team in LA because the TV market is huge.  People say the Panthers are a small market team but that's not exactly accurate.  Yes, the Charlotte TV market is 25th in the league but the Carolina Panthers TV market includes Charlotte, Raleigh-Durham, Greensboro/Winston-Salem and Asheville/Spanrtanburg Markets.  When you look at the combined viewership, the Panthers have the 5th largest TV market.  That's why the Panthers were the 1st team approved in the expansion of 1995.  TV money drives the NFL and if there was no team in Charlotte, there would be a huge TV market with no team.  The Panthers aren't going anywhere.

    • Here is what it said about him coming out of college: Overview A three-year starter with good feet and technique, Samac could be in consideration for a move-blocking rushing attack. He is strong at the point of attack but will have limitations against NFL power. He operates with good hand placement and nimble feet and is a demon once he’s on the move as a pulling center leading the way. He’s fluid and agile in the run game, but those traits fail to do as much for him in protection. Samac punches with inside hands but can struggle to widen his protection base in order to protect his edges. He has eventual starting talent as a run blocker but needs to add more mass and improve in pass protection to get there.
    • Through 2 games cltfc has 12 shot attempts. Opponents 23 shots on target. Attack sucks, Defense definitely sucks. Kahlina is the only reason they haven't given up 14 goals in two games.
    • I met a few times--never liked him. I figured he might have had a bad day--but then realized that he must have a lot of bad days. Once he raised his voice at my son because my son did not understand a question when SS was signing his jersey.  I wanted the jersey to represent his encounter with a Panther great, not some small man with a bad attitude.  I told me son, "Forget it.  He was asking you what your name is (My son was about 7 and told me that he thought Smitty was going to write (my son's) name on the jersey.  He said "Dad, I thought he was supposed to write HIS name on the jersey, not mine."  I said, "He was personalizing it, writing it to you--like a birthday card."  He is now grown, and he has a steve smith Jersey that is framed and matted.  He keeps it is his closet.  I asked him, "Why not have that out on your wall?"  He said, "All I remember is an A-hole scribbled on my shirt.  I don't remember a legend or hero.  But he had a Jake Delhomme Jersey on his wall.  "Jake was great.  I will always remember that."  (Jake stayed and talked to us for about 5 minutes or more--GREAT guy.)
