Worries about Arizona

Verge

Recommended Posts

I posted this in another thread ...........

We are all looking at our last game & the plays and comparing it to what we think Arizona can do. BUT how about comparing Arizona's last game with Green Bay (we won't even bring up their last Seattle game) to what we can do. (1) They did not get a big lead on GB before letting GB & Rodgers come back to tie. (2) GB ran successfully on them. (3) Their secondary, Peterson included, could not stop Rodgers & the GB receivers who are named ................. EXACTLY! If they could not shut down the no-name GB receivers, do you really think they'll be able to stop Ginn, Cotchery, Brown, Funchess, & Olsen all game. NO. Absolutely not! Cam Newton is just as good as Aaron Rodgers, if not better this season. Our receivers are just as good as GB's. Mix in a little throw to Fozzy or Stew or Mr. Bowling Ball now & then and we have so got this going our way all game long. The cherry on top will be our running game.

I'm saying that all our wide receivers will be the X-factors for this game. I have no doubt in my mind at all.

Here's some others who are also thinking this way: https://screen.yahoo.com/most-overlooked-nfc-championship-matchup-203030899.html

AZ first offensive series will be huge.  They are going to go for the haymaker knock out blow after Bruce basically has called out Carson for being way to scared last week on the opening scripted plays....

means potential big play opportunity....for us or them.  early tone setter.  Need to win that one IMO.

I honestly think the Panther crush them.  I wouldn't be surprised if the score was 45-10.  I'm dead serious.

I mean.... A+ for confidence bruh. And I hope it works out that way. I'm not scared of the Cardinals, but I respect them wayyy too much to predict a blowout.

GB's depth at corner is a big reason for success, Sam Shields, Casey Hayward, Damarious Randall, and Quinten Rollins are all good corners.

You can flip the script and have very similar arguments that favor us in the matchup. These are the types of things you face in a championship game. Arizona just doesn't pass the eye test IMHO and I do not think we will lose this one.

Baldwin, Lockett, and Kearse weren't a bunch of bums last week and we negated a lot of what they did (in the first half before we went conservative) with pressure up front.  Arizona's WR core is bigger but talent is talent and I don't think Palmer can pull plays out of his ass like RW.  Thieves Ave will be in the house and ready for the challenge.

I think Wilson overthrew easy 50+ yard gains three times on Sunday, not exactly impressed with our corner play by any means.

I expect we will put together long, time consuming scoring drives and limit Arizona's opportunities on offense by controlling the clock and wearing down their defense.  Once Palmer gets one dimensional, he will start forcing the ball and everybody knows we thrive on turnovers.   I have a healthy respect for Arizona but if we come out ready to play Carolina Panther football, we have a very good chance to win this game.

I mentioned this before.

The Arizona interior O line was handled by the 49ers and the Rams as well. They will have to double both Star and KK. If they do not, it is instant pressure on Palmer and he has to move. That does not work well for Palmer. So, 6 blockers.

LB will take David Johnson in the flats.

Kuechly will be all over Fitzgerald coming across the middle just like last season. You defend Fitzgerald like a receiving TE. If you put a CB on him, you are asking to lose.

Norman locks down whoever is on his side.

That leaves 1 receiver for McClain to cover with help from both safeties if necessary.

If they go 4 receivers with an empty backfield, you have 2 LBs to cover Fitzgerald, Norman takes a man, McClain gets help from a safety over the top, and Finnegan gets help from a safety over the top. Best the Cardinals could do it go 5 wide and force Kuechly to cover Fitzgerald by himself. That would mean they are willing to get Palmer hit with Star or KK since they cannot double both.

    • Unless this team plans on overpaying for Rasheed Walker who in my mind is the only long-term starting LT option in free agency then bringing back Yosh is a must.  We have no depth at the tackle spots and with Ickey's and Brady's injuries plus Moton's chronic knee troubles we need to bring it at least 3 tackles in this offseason.  Bring back Yosh plus another vet OT and take 1 in the draft. Let Yosh, another vet, and our highly drafted rookie battle it out for the starting LT job in camp and let the best man win.  Ickey struggled early on his rookie year so having a vet option or 2 on the roster to turn to would be wise.  I'd also like us to bring back Corbett at center as he'll likely come back for the vet minimum, and I wouldn't be shocked if Cade Mayes got a really expensive deal on the open market. Some team that loses out on Tyler Linderbaum is going to overpay Cade Mayes.
    • I'd offer him a decent salary on a 3 year deal that's front loaded, or a 1 year deal that's higher $$ wise because he's likely more important to us than anyone else this coming year.  Doesn't keep us from drafting an OT either way IMO, and we cover our asses in FA and see where the draft/Ickey's rehab lands.
    • Yep. BUT, even if Canales does become stagnant, I'd argue he did his job...of turning this back into a decent job instead of one only a WR coach would take.  Obviously the owner and front office may play more of a role in that aspect, but we're back to showing potential coaches we're not a total clown show.
