Vindication for Kony Ealy

Alot of us (myself included) were slightly confused back in 2014 when we used a 2nd round pick on Kony Ealy in the draft. Greg Hardy was still on the roster, and the defensive line was arguably the strongest position on the team. Our 2013 team led the league in sacks and was the catalyst of a defense that finished 2nd in the league overall. Some called it a reach and others called it a luxury pick.

Fast forward to today, and our defensive line, other than our depth as a whole and outstanding interior play, has been somewhat of a weak spot. The pass rush has taken a step back, and it's allowed teams to exploit an overall weak secondary in games where we've had a lead in the 4th quarter.

With Jared Allen out, Kony Ealy has his chance to make an impact on what might be the 2nd biggest game in franchise history. Some have been encouraged by the season he's had this year, while others might be frustrated by his steady, though rather slow progression. With a big game in a winning effort tomorrow, Kony Ealy had a chance to validate himself as worthy of a 2nd round pick and establish himself as a key player on our defense moving forward. We're in your corner, Kony, here's to the best game of your young career tomorrow! We're gonna need you, big man.

    • I was reading through the thread seeing if someone would mention this. This is exactly what the Canes are doing and Tripp Tracy alluded to it on the Spittin Chiclets podcast when he said Taylor Hall was our Sam Bennett. The Canes and Panthers have always played identical with the main difference being Florida toes the line between physical and dirty. The Canes have stepped up the physical play this year and are inching closer to that line of physical and dirty. If I’m being honest, as a Montreal fan I wouldn’t love the fact that the Canes seem to be targeting Hutson but as a Canes fan I love it because this is what you have to do in the playoffs. Unfortunately for Montreal they aren’t an overly physical team outside of Anderson and Xhekaj; only the Avs, Stars, and Sabres average less hits per game than Canadians in the playoffs. The Canadians can still make this a series if they stop playing scared and turning the puck over simply because they are getting elite goaltending while the Canes are getting average goaltending but if the Habs continue to play with the yips and either Andersen steps up or Dobes regresses then this series could end in five.
    • I guessed Andy Reid too on that Price is Right. As if I had any idea….
    • Yet I bet you he still is able to pressure him. I guess it depends on your bottom line evaluation of what Bryce is. In my opinion he is low hanging fruit for anyone with even a D game.
