Ryan Clark has a different POV on why Cam is hated.

Ryan Clark's comments on this issue are complete BS. He claims part of the reason Cam Newton is hated isn't about racism, but then goes on to give numerous examples of why IT IS ABOUT RACISM. He keeps contradicting himself.

Also, as a black woman, I'm sick and tired of when someone black admits that they're treated differently because of their race, the media ALWAYS finds another black person to get on TV to try to refute that claim as if it isn't true so they can say "SEE, THIS BLACK PERSON SAYS IT ISN'T A RACE ISSUE!"  It's just ridiculous.

Ryan had a valid point but let's not act like race doesn't play a factor. People try to dismiss it and say well it's because he has a big personality. That's crap. True he does, but he's black with a big personality and that's a problem to some. Some people have ALWAYS feared the defiant black man and that's what Cam is. When you don't apologize for being you, someone will always have a problem with it. The NFL has been dominated at he QB position by white men so they have, I suppose, set the tone for how a quarterback is supposed to act. And in comes with this big, unapologetic personality. He enjoys the game and he's having fun. That's a contagious feeling. So let's find a problem because he's not even supposed to be the leader of a team. Blacks dominate almost every position except kicker and quarterback. It pains some people to see a black quarterback having fun, leading his team and well versed in he position. But it's all because he has a big personality, right.

Although I definitely do think race plays a big factor in peoples feelings towards Cam, I think the biggest thing is that Cam just really, honestly does not give a fug. He's proven it time and time again. Cams not going to change what he does or the way he is because you don't like it.

Hes gonna wear what he wants, say what he wants, act how he wants, dance when he wants...oh yeah and he's more than likely going to grab your favorite team by the haunches and dominate them into submission.

Amen! Like I said, Ryan made some good points but let's not pretend that that was the media's way of saying no see other black people agree. Ryan Clark and Brandon Marshall are pawns in this and they're too blind to see it. I love Doug Williams speaking out for him though. I'm happy the narrative has been started.

I give pie to all in this thread for looking at this issue with an open and mature perspective, the struggles of the black QB to fit in the mainstream's expectations has been going on for decades.

I'm still not sure how how arrogance makes a QB a thug and we can include Kaep in that conversation too...not to mention others white players like Hacksaw Reynolds/Ronnie Lott and others that tried to injury players and were thugs.

I think it was early his dominance physically that started this bias and then the dancing that the older white fans couldn't relate to...but this is now balanced by the intellectual growth he has this year in running a potent offense with, essentially, no better than a #3 receiver core.

so I see a maturation of the football public in understanding what they are really seeing here, the man prepares physically, mentally and executes THE most complex offenses and enjoys winning ( we like winning don't we?)

And finally, he pretends to be whitest guy in the universe -Superman. And Josh in batman....it turns out these guys are more mainstream than the average NFL fan.

I agree with you about Ryan Clark being blind on this issue, but my problem with him was that he danced around the issue and tried to sugarcoat it which was my point.

The hate that Cam Newton receives isn't ALL based on him being black, but a majority of it is and that's where Ryan Clark dropped the ball.

I've said this before. In fact it's my most highly pied post.

This team has been compared to the 85 Bears for a number of reasons but can anyone imagine how Cam would be treated if he did half the stuff Jim McMahon did when he's a Bear?  And the press fuggin loved that guy.

Can some people not like Cam because of his race?  Yes.

Some not like his culture? Yes

Some not like him because he doesn't play for their team? Yes

Because he has fun?  Yes

Because hw went to Auburn? Yes

SEC school?  Yes

Has better teeth?  Yes

More money? Yes

Since we play the what if game all the time many here who adore Cam would throw eggs at him if he played for the  Cowboys.

Even the sports culture has its nuances and biases and stupidity.

This just in. Humans can be amazing and dirt.  Sometimes in the same hour.
