Brad Hoover: "The Patriots Cheated"

As the Panthers try to win their first championship in franchise history, players from the team that lost in the Panthers’ previous Super Bowl appearance think they got cheated.

The latest ex-Panther to say so is Brad Hoover, who said on 610 WFNZ that he thinks the Patriots spied on the Panthers and knew their game plan.

“Can I prove they cheated? No. But deep down in my heart, I think they did,” Hoover said.

Hoover said the Panthers were shocked by the way the Patriots knew their offense in the first half, and so they made wholesale changes at halftime, and in the second half the Patriots didn’t know what was coming.

“At halftime, we changed our whole offensive game plan, and that’s one of the advantages of having that long intermission,” Hoover said. “How did they know what we were doing? The play in the second half was a lot different. We were able to put a lot more points on the board and I think that’s a part of it.”

Playing the Patriots in the Super B owl is a lot like trying to take out Triple H for the WWE world title. You don't have to take out just Triple H, but you're up against management, the ref, all their buddies who can jump into the ring, the time limit, the announcers and sometimes even your own team that will turncoat on you.

Oh yeah, and you can't lose the title by disqualification, so even if they get busted, there's no real punishment.

Whether it is taping practices, deflating balls or getting hit upside the head with a folding metal chair, Triple B (Bad Bill Belichick) has it stacked in his favor.

Yep.  I remember thinking the halves were completely different shortly after the game ended.  I bet the announcers say something about it during the game too.  The first half was the most boring game ever and the 2nd half was probably one of the most entertaining halves of SB history.  Something just didn't seem right about it at the time.  I just assumed the NFL was rigged until Spygate came out.  Once I heard about Spygate I figured the coaches knew something was up and changed the playbook at halftime and the Patriots had to change it up and weren't as prepared.  Nice to see my thoughts on that part are confirmed.

It has certainly made me wonder "what if" spygate hadn't occurred.  We had a very solid team back then and with a SB ring things may have been very different the past decade.

Common knowledge at this point but it feels good to have the guys back up our assertions that NE stole our game plan and used it to their advantage.

did we have 5 men on a 52 man roster use PEDs? Yes and they were punished.

what punishment did the patriots get? Oh yeah a trophy, parade, heaps of national praise and 24/7 dick riding.  Poor guys...

I think Goodell handing such a harsh punishment to Brady for deflategate was an indication to me that there was a lot more incriminating evidence from spygate than what was revealed publicly. Goodell probably told the Patriots to keep it clean or next time the punishment will be excessive. When deflategate happened Goodell followed through on his promise but could never say why.

The Patriots cheating in the Super Bowl against the Panthers  would be a good reason for Goodell to give a harsh deflategate punishment. Goodell would never want to say the Patriots cheating affected Super Bowl outcomes because that would ruin the integrity of the league.

    • WR: Nico, Woods, Tank (R) TE: Schultz OL: Tunsil/Howard/Deiter/Mason/Fant vs. WR: Chark, Thielen, Mingo (R) TE: Hurst OL: Icky/Zavala (R)/Bozeman/Jensen (R)/Moton   Panthers' had the better OL before losing BC week 1 and AC week 4 which is kind of ironic considering how in the following year DB went down in W1 and Shaq in W4 resulting in the defense going all to Hell. CJ has done amazing in Houston, but he also wasn't asked to carry Zavala, Jensen, Mingo, Hurst, and Chark as a rookie.
    • Past 5 seasons, IMO CJ Stroud and Joe Burrow are the 2 best young QBs that have emerged in the league in that window.  They also didn’t need vets to be their primary pass catchers.  They helped fellow youngsters be great at WR.   almost all the other young QBs have been paired up with vets in their top options….and haven’t been as promising.  so it isn’t Madden.  But the league hasn’t played out as you suggest it does.   Good QBs make others around them better.
    • In 2023 their roster wasn’t stacked. They nailed the poo out of the 2023 draft and since they knew Davis Mills wasn’t the guy, they tanked properly to get pick 2. They also took Cleveland’s ridiculous offer for Watson unlike us with Burns. Houston received enough draft capital to jump up to 3 while picking up the right guys in Anderson and Stroud. The Texans were not stacked or better than us in 2023. They had 11 total wins from 2020 to 2022. They didn’t have a terrible front office so they made sure they got their QB of the future while tanking well and getting more draft picks. They are a textbook study of what we should have done in 2022/2023 offseason even though people in here still think tanking is a bad word and our culture would be bad if we were the Texans. We literally had the chance to be the Texans right now and fuged it up.
