You're not new to this are you? We always get poo'd on by the media. Learn to embrace it, you will feel better. If you notice in BSPN they don't mention the Panthers lately unless it's cams press conference. Forget about him being MVP.

Oh I get being poo'd on by the media and have always embraced it. But you would think that the GM of a team with the league MVP and a 17-2 record would get the tv time over the Detroit Lions.

Someone predicting that this is the year the Lion's finally turn the corner and become a great team is an annual media ritual. Usually coincides with a prediction that Matt Stafford is finally going to take the next step as a quarterback.

Expect the same thing this time next year.

Gettleman: We've won 22 out of 25 games with Remmers at RT. I'm not a knee-jerk guy

Well said!  I wonder what kind of money Remmers will command? He's a better tackle than a lot of teams out there have on their rosters, and he's still young. I hope Gettleman gets a 2-3 year affordable contract squared away on this guy before a desperate team makes him an offer we won't match (see Ted Ginn 2 years ago).

I just wanted to take another opportunity to thank Captain Morgan for these threads... It really helps keep me in the loop when I am unable to do so otherwise...

I pie'd every post in this thread by him, and so should you if you appreciate the updates too.

He's a RFA and the 2nd round tender is about $2.1M. Another team could sign him but we would have the opportunity to match or get a 2nd round pick in return which essentially means he would be back here next year. $2.1M is pretty cheap for a solid starting RT so that's a no brainer. Daryl Williams is waiting in the wings to take over so there isn't really a need to sign Remmers long term. Williams is either ready to take over next year and you've got a great backup in Remmers at both OT positions and C or Williams gets another year to develop and take over in 2017 at which point Remmers should get a nice pay day on the open market.

That would be my plan for the RT position.

I felt as if Gettleman is leaning towards reaching a deal with Norman after his comments. Franchise tag last resort. No?

I would think that the franchise tag would have always been the last resort, as long as Josh doesn't get crazy about the amount of money he wants. Gettleman already knows what he's willing to pay, and a long term deal is better for both parties.

The usual Panic Bunnies will probably pitch a fit about Remmers.

As I recall, a few years back we were also "confident" in receivers King and McNutt...until they were replaced.

That said, he's right. We won a lot of games with Remmers starting.

Exactly. DG's not committing to Remmers at RT by defending him in a press-conference. He'll look to upgrade every single position if possible. Even QB and MLB (though the starters are impossible to upgrade). D Williams could very well win that RT job in camp, if his play speaks loudly enough. And maybe if we had a TE and FB who could actually block, Remmers could've had some help on that side and we'd have won. Can't even count how many times Dickson whiffed in the backfield and I love Tolbert's versatility but he's not a great blocker. Better in pass prot. than run blocking, but still not great.

Honestly, I think that's always been the plan.

That's what I've wanted but based on Jeremy and Voth's thoughts it's seemed more like we'd have him on a 1 year rental this year then let him walk. Hopefully we can sign him for the next 3-4 years.

My bad, I thought he was unrestricted. I wanted a deal for him for all the reasons you just pointed out. Thanks for seting me straight, 1 less thing to worry about.
