During a visit to Pro Football Talk on NBCSN from the Scouting Combine in Indianapolis this week, Panthers coach Ron Rivera said that he thought the team could get back to the Super Bowl.

It seems the Panthers are interested in expanding the number of chances that Rivera will have to prove himself right.

Joseph Person of the Charlotte Observer reports that the Panthers have started talks with Rivera about a contract extension. Rivera signed a three-year extension through 2017 with the team after the Panthers won the NFC South in the 2013 season and he’s led the team to two more division titles and an NFC title since signing that deal.

That extension bumped Rivera’s salary past $4 million per season and he’ll get another bump on that front if he and the team do come to an agreement. Rivera, who will bring back almost his entire staff from 2015, is 47-32-1 in five seasons with the Panthers and has led the team to victories in 19 of their last 20 regular season games.

3 minutes ago, The NFL Shield At Midfield said:

wanted him fired in 2012.

and again in 2013.

and again in 2014.

please forgive me ron.

You would have a blast if you were a Browns fan!        Their front office listens to the fans by firing their head coach every year or so.

Ron completely changed the culture of this organization. I'm glad we gave him time to see his plan develop. Too many NFL teams give up on their coaches way too fast. I hope Rivera is here for a very long time. He is a great coach and a better person than everyone respects greatly. We are fortunate to have him

*edit: and he has become one of the best coaches in the NFL without being a cheater or being dirty like so many of the "great" coaches in the NFL

Best story in the book is the redemption story. He pulled himself, and his career, up out of the ashes when most of us were writing him off and some classless jackasses were yelling it in his face.

The fans gave up on him, treated him like trash, and he somehow turned it around, made a lousy NFC South-standard team into something respectable, and has been a class act the whole time.

Yeah, we owe him a better contract, and we all ought to chip in an extra $200 apiece as a bonus.

    • Been here since middle school right when it started around 2003 after the charlotte.com one. Living outside of Carolina it was tough to find good Panthers content, news or analysis. And no one to talk to about it. This place gave me a lot though I don’t often post. In the later days, I particularly Loved PhillyB’s write ups. They were fire. Too bad I go let it go. I appreciate the hell out of @MHS831 @TheSpecialJuan @Jackie Lee and others who have been posting great content and keeping this place worth coming back to. Particularly during the offseason. Appreciate y’all!
    • Nice explanation, but I was just messing with you. Thought that would be obvious. I dont have the energy to keep on trolling. Last season I compared our situation with Bryce as a potential Alex Smith, but what we should be looking for is our version of Mahomes. Some people will read that as one sentence, to me that single sentence is equivalent to a half A4 explanationf of the teams pathway forward.
    • I dont know how much of his salary would come across and how much a trade would cost but I feel Kmet would be the sort of TE Canales and Morgan would like
