JPP, Giants not close to a deal

I'd rather try to lure Jared Allen out of retirement and pay him that $8 million he could have gotten this year than sign a disabled DE for $9-10 million. At least Jared was able to tally 2 sacks and could make wrap-up tackles. I can remember JPP trying to wrap up Stewie and go sliding off because he couldn't use his disabled hand to wrap Stewie up.

Hellz NO

People are too caught up in the hand injury that JPP suffered and not focusing enough on his 41 QB pressures and 6 batted passes in half a season of play. Obviously the sack numbers weren't there but when you make the QB move his feet, good things usually happen.

Our DL rotates at a good rate, but injuires at DE has dropped production, JPP would become a solid contributior and bring veteran experience.

He wouldn't have that cast on anymore which was already explained in here a couple times. Missing 1 or 2 fingers isn't going to make a DE turn bad. If you ever have seen old linemen from back in the day, half their fingers were bent to hell and they still were able to play. You guys are way over exaggerating this.

He had yet another hand surgery in the HOPE he can play without a cast. I wouldn't drop $9-10 million on hopes and prayers. He's not playing with mangled fingers. They are missing. Gone. Big difference

^ Playing is one thing, especially in a small timeframe.  But NEVER having a part of your hand again while doing lifts and conditioning drills can't be understated either when extra reps and inches are everything.

Can he grab anyone?  Can he impact his hand against another player in a rip/swim move? Can he fire his hands into the chest of a blocker violently?   Can he get in a stance and put all of his weight on that hand??

I just dont see it. Plus hes a fugging idiot. I mean..  Look what he did to himself.

JPP won't ever get that $10 million a year.  Look at his behavior and his hand coupled with his age.  Sure, 27 isn't too bad, but he's had a TON of surgeries on that hand.  As someone said, his arm isn't as developed as the other due to not being able to exercise it.  JPP still made pressure, which is great.  But how will his hand affect his conditioning for the rest of his career?  It's going to take more modification of routines to get him physically whole again.

If Gman believes in JPP, and he can get him at the right price, cool.  He can put pressure, and he should be able to get people wrapped up by the season.  But he won't get $10 million a year from us.  He'll have to take a SB or Bust discount to sign here.

    • So the last guy who had the job got hired by his former team directly into a role he has no direct experience in?
    • Hard to pass up millions for a couple of days work per week for a coaching gig in the NFL that is 60-80 hours each week during the season and a more relaxed 50 hours a week during the off season. Yeah, I'd love to see him as our DC but hard to see him giving up the cushy job there if he gets it. And he's going to be a great commentator for the network.
    • Really, I think that is where negotiations come in. If you've got a QB getting you to 10 wins but statistically he's not a great performer, then you say look you can take $22 million or you can try it on the market. Because let's face it, out there, any leadership skills that we're seeing aren't going to be on the table, it's just going to be performance and that lands him in the QB2 market, which is much, much less lucrative (although any of us would love that money).  No one is saying that Bryce will be a $50 million QB, barring something short of a miraculous jump. I'm just saying that if we are winning somehow with him at the helm, then it would be fuging stupid to dive back into the rookie pool all over again. Let's say we do hit the 10 win mark, heck, let's call it 11 and a second round in the playoffs. I think we can all say that would be a really uplifting result and one that should be doable if we have good play. What do we do then? Here's what I would offer if I were Morgan and Tepper. $25 million a year for 3 years, each year with up to $10 million in incentives for touchdowns, wins, playoff depth, being under 10 interceptions, completing a full season, passing yardage milestones, taking less than 15 sacks. Look, Bryce isn't a Ferrari, he isn't a Corvette, or a mid-level BMW. He's probably a new Toyota Sienna that will definitely get you somewhere and bring the whole team along with it, no fuss but not a lot of pizazz.  And really, it's about the destination, not about what drove you there.
