I Don't Get The Celebration Here...

Josh was a HUGE part of our success this last season.  He's not perfect, and perhaps he overvalued himself, but he's the perfect fit for us.  And the biggest thing that irks me about all of this high fiving over our GM publicly humiliating him (which brings back horrible memories of the Smitty debacle for me), is that he isn't in the wrong.  This is his livelihood.  This is how he makes a life for himself and his family.  And this is most likely his best and only chance at making the most money he possibly can, and so he did what any person in his position would do - see what the maximum amount he can get is.  And GMan essentially castrates him in front of the world for no other reason but his pride.

This isn't a one off either.  We have done this more than once now with prominent players.  Do you think agents and players will be encouraged to do business with us if they can avoid it when we air their kind out like this?

I respect GMan.  The guy knows his stuff and he has made me eat my crow time and again (except for Smitty lol), but this just stinks to me.  I know it's business and the franchise/team's needs are the priority for me as a fan, but Norman is a good guy.  He laid it all out there for us and at his age, he is looking to maximize what he can make...  he did nothing wrong and fans are here acting like it is a celebratory event that he was embarrassed by our FO and will now most likely be playing elsewhere, while we scramble to find a replacement.  Yay!

Well as much as I agree that he leaves us with a big hole, he also kinda forced this on himself... Sign the damn tag.... Get paid..... And shut up and play football... But u see how that worked out...

So you're saying the team should've met his demands to save Josh the embarrassment?  What did he think would happened if the team wouldn't pay his asking price and he wouldn't sign the tag?  Should the team allow him to hold out and leave them without his services knowing a deal would never be reached?  How is it possible to avoid what inevitably happened?

While you can say that. Gman has to set the tone with the rest of the roster. Star and KK are coming up for new contracts. Gman can't be bullied and he has to show it. The best thing we can do now is take that 13 million and make this roster better than it was before.

Nobody knows what truly happened.  He hadn't signed the franchise tag yet and maybe Gman felt that he could possibly hold out into the season like Kam Chancellor did last year.  I don't agree with him waiting until now to make a decision but we have absolutely no idea as to what really transpired.  All I know is Gman's track record has been off the charts I think I'll give the man the benefit of the doubt on this one.

Not sure how Norman was castrated, he just got out of a system that gives teams all the power and can sign whatever deal he wants now. Hopefully he gets paid big time, but I'm very glad we have a GM that doesn't feel everyone deserves a pay day. Now I'll eagerly await the Short extension and prepare for the draft. Also if you really think we will be scrambling for a replacement I don't know what to tell you. Gettleman and scramble dont belong in the same sentence together.

I think a lot of it has to do with the Dave Gettlemen fans that think at this point everything he does will be a home run.....law of averages eventually have to come into play with Dave.

Dave has done a great job.  But like any GM he will have some blunders.  As close as we were to a Super Bowl I think Norman was worth the headache being tagged and giving it one more shot.   Losing him is a step back.  He was big in our season last year and getting us to where we got.  I think he is overrated myself.....but that doesn't mean we should of let him walk based on how we are built presently

Lol, man, you know that's not what I'm saying.  That is absurd.  What i AM saying is that is how negotiations work...  each side starts with a number they know they're going to have to move off of and in the end, each side hopes to be the one that moved the least.  But, in order to continue negotiating you have to grind through the bullshit and posturing - like not signing a tag or deciding not to come to offseason workouts.  What player in that situation signs the tag immediately and does all the OTAs and voluntary stuff?  None that I recall, unless they knew they were maybe a couple thousands apart...

I just think this was unleashing a nuke when it wasn't necessary.

Yes I'm afraid that if he took 12 million a year he might starve. I like Josh and he was a great fit, but he is the one that forced this. He has no one else to blame. I'm not the biggest Getleman fan, but he has to run an entire team and one player creating issues is one to many.

Uhhhh...he very well may have released Josh so he can get paid NOW, long-term, while we focus on guys who will be here long term. Win-win for both. Gettleman seemingly wanted a long-term deal as evidenced by the tag and talking to him and his agent. They were far apart. Gettleman, according to Person, either sought a trade or gave Josh's agent permission to ask about a trade. Nothing happened. Not seeing how you fault GMan here.

If he played under the franchise tag and God forbid got hurt...there goes any chance at making big money. So just by flipping the logic, Gettleman did him a favor. Gettleman was rumored to be willing to go 11-12 million a year, Josh thought he was worth more. His right to do so. Josh thinking he's a Top 5 CB of ALL-TIME is also his right...albeit a completely ludicrous one.

And publicly humiliated? Come on. They pulled his damn franchise tag. They didn't put him on camera, pull down his pants, laugh at him, and say go play for vet min. Jesus.

Identify the core.  Keep the core. unfortunately Norman is basically an interchangeable part in carolinas system.  While he was indeed quite good, hes not essential for carolina to have success.  Carolina just needs their corners to be good enough for the front 7 to get pressure. thats it.

    • His first season. I saw it with my own eyes, others saw it too. Old man Dalton had to come in to make the throw. I watch every game. You must of just missed it. He had another chance a couple of weeks ago from the 50 and didn't even attempt to throw it to the endzone....cause he cant.
    • I would say if they put Corbett back at center, that would be evidence of some kind of favoritism thing going on.  I would have to ask if our coaches are leaders of men.  So they bet not do some stupid stuff like that.  It would be one thing if Corbett had pedigree at the position, a probowler.  This dude has never been a good center in the slightest, and only looked decent at the guard position in the past. (Which I don't believe he ever had a fully healthy season as a Panther)    So this shouldn't even be a discussion if you're the coaches.  But again, Corbett never should have been the starter in the first place.  I know we're armchair coaching when it comes to these things, but before the season, I was rooting for Mays to win the position.  The guy played a key role in Bryce's surgence last year.  Why mess up that combination?  And they did mess up the combination by making Corbett the starter.  It could be we might of won against the Jags had Mays been the starter. (Yes, I believe it was that critical)  We know Mays went in late against the Cards, where Bryce began looking better at the end. (Though the Cards played soft coverage)  So all these things says Cade Mays is the better center for the team.  Yet certainly he is the better center for Bryce if nothing else.
    • He was our best YAC guy in 2023 and 4th in 2024(behind Hubbard, Sanders, Coker). He was a great and productive WR for us because he knows how to play the game, he had a connection with Bryce specifically and our other options have largely been atrocious.
