Little tidbit: #49ers were one of several teams which talked to #Panthers about a trade for Josh Norman this offseason. Never got anywhere

My thinking is that it had to be lower. If Gettleman was offered a 3rd rounder this year? He jumps at it. If he was offered a 4th, he probably still jumps at it. Had to be lower, and he decided to play the comp pick game and he's basically going to assure us a 3rd rounder next year.

Yeah, an early 4th this year is better than a very late 3rd next year so it was likely less or it could be that SF wasn't offering enough money to Josh and that held up a trade.

No. It's about value of free agents.  It's a computed process...Normans contract will far outweigh anyone that we can sign at this point.

Or he could just wait until after May 12th. Not like anyone we sign at this point is going to have major suitors so no harm in waiting. Maybe they miss a couple weeks of offseason workouts but that is preferable to losing a 3rd rounder.
