It has happened! Gettleman has tamed the Huddle beast!

Many may disagree, as they clutch to the Huddle's old ways out of some perverse homage to the contention of yesteryears' draft seasons,  but I do believe that Dave Gettleman's approach to drafting has finally taken the "fight" out of the Huddle in regards to arguing over prospects.  Gettledaddy's word is his bond,  and law of the land.  Why fuss and fight when Getty basically tells you to sit down and shut up?

Don't  get me wrong,  there are still the players that are major points of contention,  and we do have our little skirmishes here and there,  but they seem to be markedly less frequent,  pretentious, and downright ugly.

I guess what looks to be the relative beginning of sustained success, authored in large part by Gettleman, makes fans listen more and speak less. Moreover,  when you have arguably 10 to 12 players who could start on other teams out of three drafts,  that's a pretty good indicator that it's time to trust the GM.  And then,  lastly,  you may just realize that arguing over these late first round picks (which you may as well get accustomed to having) is even more silly because it is much harder for you as a layman to judge anything other than those consensus,  top prospects at their positions. And we've all heard the saying that a late first is a glorified second anyway.

Now before someone gets all warm and fuzzy and fools themself into thinking that it's all sweet,  warm potions and pixie dust,  I am just referring to pre-draft mania.  Who knows what will ensue after the picks are in? But I dare say that the Huddle has succumbed to the calming effect of Gettlemagic, much like a snake charmer subdues a Cobra. This draft season (and free agent period, really) has been comparatively enjoyable.

I'm sure there are a handful of people with a prewritten word document about how Gettleman seems desperate because he picked player x.

Yes, and they will go ballistic because we did not replace both Smitty and JNo with the first round hybrid Receiver/Corner that would have answered all of our problems, and only wanted to play for the minimum salary, because he only wants to win championships, and money means nothing.

Not so fast my friend.  We shall see.  Depending on the pick at #30, there's a good chance at least a few posters go full retard.

CPantherking stays in that mode, as do Gooby and one or two others.

Likewise, there are a couple who will probably go off when we start the season without having signed Greg Hardy.

he'll eventually have a dud first rounder in all likelihood.  I mean probably not an aaron curry but one that doesn't measure up to star, what kelvin benjamin looks like he's going to be, etc.

that scenario will be ripe for "see i told you so!".  when the panthers finally lost a game last season people with an axe to grind did that too even though they have been wrong literally 14 times in a row prior to that.  it didn't matter; an ideology can be a powerful thing.

Based on the handful of draft threads I've perused so far this offseason, I imagine if Gettleman were to pick Derrick Henry, half this board would have a conniption.  Personally, I think he's more worthy of a 2nd round pick, but if Gettleman thinks he's good enough to pick in the 1st, I'd be happy with it.

People here have conniptions to have conniptions. There has to be something to be outraged over.....it's the Internet.

    • Yeah and I am doubtful he can offer that consistently. I don’t have many years left at my age and in my view we have wasted two and this whole exercise with him was always a three year minimum.  I am out on that with a guy I don’t believe in, and never believed in, it has sucked. To me it is a costly detour off the right track. Years.    But I am not so rigid that I can’t see excellence. He needs to display it though, consistently before I change my outlook.
    • No, when I said rage, I meant rage, which only applies to certain fans on this board. Your timeline of trying to assess whether he is the future or not is really tied to the discussions surrounding his second contract. If this team is going to commit to some monster contract while he has shown nothing but glimpses of brilliance would be deservedly worrisome, so the clock is genuinely ticking for him to settle into something resembling his final form. Perhaps a best case scenario is that he plays well, the team succeeds, but he does so with a more limited role that makes the rest of the league view him as a game manager, and his second contract value reflects that. Then he continues to improve and becomes a bargain comparatively while not handicapping the team around him, and we enter an era of consistent championship competitiveness that the fanbase has craved for decades and has never really experienced before. But that requires many, many things to go right and for Bryce himself to facilitate that if he ends up being the quarterback of the future.
    • Exactly. And the flame throwers as well, get location benefits from not going all out. But they have it in reserve.  Not sure how much Greg had but he was an artist.  There was a YouTube I came across last year or maybe even 2023 and I don’t how to even find now but it had two NFL QBs I want say one was Carr from the Raiders but I don’t really remember  The point of it is they stood side by side throwing identical distances to identical targets. Radar gun was used.  They threw the normal effort (not all out) and it was measured etc. Then they were asked to throw their ‘fastball’. They were missing and most often they were missing high. It demonstrated the same principle.    edit: and applying that to arm strength, give me the guy that doesn’t need max effort to have good velocity. The margins are so narrow with less velocity in tne NFL the defenders can Close on it and this is a league where they value down to the 100th of a second level. It is that tight
