Wow. I had never heard of this kid. Looks like he has great hands and he can certainly go up high and out reach a lot of corners with that height. Dave does it again, looks like a great pickup.

Competition wise, I don't get why he chose the panthers, given that both KB and Funch is already here. He got much of the same skill set, and would propably stand out more during TC at another team. That being said, stoked he's here!

The number 2 spot is up for grabs, and I believe Key will win it.

nFugging LOVE this pick.

He's not a pick. He's a pick up. Certainly worth a good look though.

Some other WR's who weren't good enough to get drafted:

Rod Smith
Victor Cruz
Wayne Chrebet
Wes Welker

Hoping for some big plays from this guy in camp. We're overdue for a really good UDFA.

Well, given that we got a near-elite starting guard as a UDFA in 2014, I'd say we're not too overdue.  But I'll gladly take another UDFA breakout star!

Based off that highlight reel, I'd say he made some tough catches and shows some good hands. But it also only showed him run about 3 routes, and a few catches where he was already going to the ground unnecessarily to make the catch when staying upright could have netted a few YAC. Coaching can fix that, so here's to hoping he balls out.

And lol at the love affair with Stephen Hill that seems to pop up every year about this time.

What you just said is pretty much what the "evals" are saying about him, Kush... that he was used in a very limited fashion, but was very good in the limited uses he was provided.

Another article from same website exclusively about Garrett. Explains why he'll need plenty of coaching and patience.

http://www.thebackyardbanter.com/reception-perception-keyarris-garrett-is-a-unicorn-in-this-draft-class.html

He lined up only on the right side of the field. He ran slants the most, then curls and nines. While the combination of nines and curls is a good 1-2 punch of vertical and short threats, he needs more diversity in his routes or it will be easy to defend him. Slants were the route he ran the most, but he had a below average score on that pattern. Garrett doesn't display elite quickness, causing sloppiness on that route, which hurts his production on slants.

He does well against man and press coverages, but tends to get lost in zones, not finding the correct spot to sit down in. He also is easier to tackle than someone his size should be. The good news is, setting up defenders to miss tackles, finding spots in zone, running a more diverse route tree, and lining up on the left side are teachable skills. Bad news is, it won't happen overnight, so anyone hoping Garrett will be an instant #2 WR will be sad.

This guy definitely looks like a keeper. He has really good hands...whoever said drops are an issue with him doesn't know what he is talking about.

Has the reason he wasn't drafted come to light yet?

FWIW, this guy slaughtered Memphis  ... couldn't stop him. He looks like what Kelvin and Funchess would be if you molded them into each other.

I dont care if he only ran 2-4 routes...he should have been drafted.

And Cash was the ACC defensive POY over Ramsey and Lawson... those 3-4 string of injuries since Oct allowed him to drop so far.

There will be no stashing this guy or Cash... 2 in/2 out.

    • PJ's completion % was 63% when starting games in Carolina.  Which I believe is better than Bryce when starting.  And again, 4-3 as the starter here and the LONE QB Carolina has been able to actually win with in the Tepper era.  If you ask a gambling gunslinger to come into blowouts.....they are going to go down in a blaze of glory.  Which he would do.  Yeah, he isn't good.  And gunslingers are supposed to have rockier stats than checkdown QBs.   So....why does PJ Walker have a better comp % as a starter than Bryce Young.  And for every knock you want to make about PJ, you can find something or a skillset that PJ does better than Bryce.   I didn't say PJ had good field vision.  He doesn't.  Tell me about Bryce after he comes off the first read lol.  Let me repeat, PJ Walker is not a good QB.  He is NFL depth and an in house arm.  Bryce Young doesn't belong in a convo w/ Jake and Cam.  He belongs closer in a convo with the backup caliber QBs Carolina was forced into playing.  Which isn't just PJ Walker.  But Kyle Allen.  Moore.  Guys like that.
    • Oh I see what you meant by memory. I will trust my memory, I have looked a a lot of those ball charts for Bryce and they trend a general pattern. They thing that has changed that I have noticed more recently is the reduction in the bunching of behind or at  the LOS passes over to his right.  Aside from the quantity of throws recently since the running game has become a more dominant factor.
    • Yes but you basically said you are going from a quick skim of those charts without doing the same for Bryce and/or Andy. So you are going memory vs. snapshots. That's not going to be a very comprehensive analysis.
