Should #89 be Replaced?

Devil Doc

Recommended Posts

I agreed with the decision to let him go when Gettleman did a few years ago. With that being said, 89 should not be replaced. He was the Panthers for a long time, and is the best player in this franchises short history. Well, he is at the moment...eventually that will be Cam.

Of course, if he doesn't want to retire a panther, then I don't care if his number is replaced.

You do realize, that we have this guy named Cam Newton playing QB right now, right?

Nobody is saying that the Panthers suck without Steve Smith, so your rhetorical questions are basically you just talking to yourself.

yeah i didn't say that.  here, i'll explain one more time -

it's just as stupid and overly simplistic and black and white to say "wow steve sure showed us by whooping that ass in 2014 when we played the ravens!" which is what aceboogie said as it would be if someone hypothetically said "wow we went 15-1 and won two straight division titles and a conference title without steve smith!  clearly we don't need him"

so no, i'm not talking to myself.  i'm directly addressing something someone said.  and it is overly simplistic and doesn't take a billion other things into account to look at one game and say "well there's your answer if you're wondering whether releasing this guy was the right move".  it's an analogy.

You mean the guy who made sure the media was always there every time he did anything in the nature of community service looks like he did more than the other guys?

For the record I was super pissed with smittys comments after his release and at the time didn't want him back but time heals.

these posters like tiger_87 who just started watching the panthers play need to stay out of threads like this. You have ZERO say in something like this when you didn't watch smitty destroy DBs game after game, year after year for the panthers. His charity work off the field has been the best this organization has had. So bringing up TC fights and acting like you know what the fug you're talking about is pathetic. You're a grown fuging man.

he's still my favorite panther of all time.  don't think otherwise based on my comments in this thread.

i've still got his jersey and it's going to be un-retired once he's out of the league.

I have 2 of his Jerseys, Just bought them last year. I have a Reebok Blue Jersey with Sewn Twill Numbers, and a Black Nike with Screenprint (Which was only sold for 2 Years)

He's dead to me.  Give that number to someone else cause there's no way it should be retired.  He was great while here but not great enough to retire that number.  Sorry to all you player worshipers out there but there's only one player that might deserve it currently on the team but I highly doubt even his number will be considered for retirement and that's 58.

lmgdao... probably will end up in the top 10 WRs of all time list, easily, and that with a majority of poo-scrub QBs around him... but if you're a fan, you are a player worshiper... HAHA

Put Steve Smith in Marvin Harrison's position and Steve Smith is currently #2 or #3 all time WR right now... GTFO with that bullshit...

    • Play point guard while throwing to… in 2023: Mingo - bust. Hurt/hasn’t done a thing in Dallas. Well on his way out of league  Chark - no longer in league  Hurst - no longer in league Marshall - hasn’t done a thing  Sullivan/Strachan - pretty much same dude. Both not playing  Thielen - hasn’t done a damn thing since he left Carolina  Miles Sanders - nothing    2024: Legette - rookie WR who still has no idea what he’s doing  Mingo - see above  Coker - when he did play/healthy he was solid  Thielen - see above  Sanders - bust Diontae Johnson - headache. Out of league. Failed on 12 teams in 2024 There’s more names but again all irrelevant and doing nothing in the league. This is the crap and turnover Bryce has dealt with the first two seasons. Given the type of QB Bryce is he stood no chance with these guys. We’re finally seeing improvement because there’s some consistency at least now. It would be nice if we could get Bryce a tight end worth a Damn so he could use the middle of the field more often. Plus we’ve had 10 different OL combinations this season as well or something absurd  What an absolute disaster this has been since the trade up.
    • I mean we are limited in our options realistically, Howell is a Baker esque player who put up 4k and 22tds in his one year starting... with no weapons and a horrible oline. Oh I'm sure out the gates he wouldnt have a chance vs teppers golden brycey but if we stumble out he gates again Canales may injury list him again to try and save his job.
