Is Kawann Short holding out?

Just hope we dont let another great player walk. We always develop players and just let them walk. Gettlemans a great gm , hands down the best when it comes to finding gems and drafting but I dont have much confidence when it comes to players resigning

This is in response to the low ball offer Gettleman tossed out. Very disrespectful to any player in contract talks when the GM wants to make it appear that they are not a key player to the team. You cannot push for loyalty to the team while not being loyal to the players. Not sure Gettleman will ever understand this. Same song and dance, but this will be much uglier following what Gettleman did to Norman. KK knows what to expect and will leverage it now. Either Gettleman wants him and pays him big (unlikely), or Gettleman will deem him a distraction that does not want to be on the team (expected).

Gettleman becomes the team distraction. (probably has piles of money stacked up on his desk that he refuses to spend so he can admire it every day).

KK gets a trade and sign deal. Bye KK. Get paid.

It's business. The Gettleman culture.

Sometimes I wonder whether this kid is serious half the time, or if he's that stupid.

Obviously the Josh thing has shaken up all the things we thought we knew as certain.  It was easy to automatically ASSUME that Josh would play for us under the tag even if we couldn't get a long-term deal done.  So, yes, it's good to be a bit more cautious in our assumptions re: KK, but I *really* can't see Gettleman letting him walk when we're in pretty good shape re: the Cap because of all the wise moves Gettleman has made.  He's been planning and saving up for this.

Remember, Gettleman got Cam, TD, Luke and Greg all re-signed last summer on solid, pretty team-friendly, deals,  SOME re-signings have been pretty smooth.

However, now maybe the Josh thing will make negotiations tougher, plus the fact that the DT market is now substantially more pricey than it was.  Maybe KK and his agent will push back against G'man, demanding the highest possible amount that KK is worth.  No team-friendly discount.   I still think that even if that happens, unless KK is utterly unreasonable, that Dave bites this bullet.   KK is the quintessential hog-mollie and a guy Dave clearly wants to build around and would consider part of our core.

I'm not really sure why the Josh norman thing freaks everyone out.  He wanted way more than we were willing to pay him. We didn't let him walk, he chose to walk.  And I'm glad we didn't offer him what washington did.

I guess everyone's still upset because Gettleman pulled the tag.  But it gave us extra money to sign people with and we weren't going to have norman after this season anyways

Why do people keep saying poo like this?  Who are all of these great players we've developed, and let walk?  Seriously, I can name one guy...

Agree with being glad we didn't pay him what Washington paid him, though I will miss him this year as part of our D.   I'm not sure that his departure has caused me or many of us to "freak out" as much as it's been a reminder not to take contract negotiations lightly or treat certain outcomes as givens.  I don't think any of us would have predicted G'man rescinding the tag.  It was a pretty big shock within NFL circles.  So, it's just a very fresh reminder to "never say never."   Unexpected outcomes CAN occur.   So many of us are no longer treating KK's contract as a sure slam dunk.

Surprised.  KK seemed chill about his contract when asked about it during week 1 of OTAs.  But hey, if it means the contract can get worked out quickly, I'll be ok with it.   I really hope we'll see a contract BEFORE minicamp.

And it doesn't hurt Butler to get some additional reps right now....

It is a shame to have teams like the Jags overpaying for mediocre players.  Messes up the market, but oh well.  Such is life in the NFL.

Ya kkk is a stud and needs to be paid. It is bothersome that he literally made the comment within the past week that he wasn't concerned with contract but was still working to get better and does this but whatever.  Sure gman will pony up for this dude.

We are talking about VOLUNTARY Organized Team Activities.

Everyone needs to calm down.  We have been spoiled that so many of our players buy into these OTAs and show up. They are not, and cannot, be required.  KK is not a player on the bubble, and doesn't need to secure a roster spot.  Almost rather him not be out there to avoid injury.

Once TC rolls around he will be there, new contract or not.

I remember the four years of poo that resulted when we decided to pay everybody.

I like the current system, even if it makes me nervous from time to time. Everyone is saying pay the man, but none of us have any idea what he's asking for. If a deal doesn't get done, we'll know that one side was being unreasonable. I'm not going to blindly assume that it's the front office every time.

Furthermore, in the last 3 years, I've seen...

-Smitty get cut

-Hardy get cut

-Munnerlyn walk

-Mitchell walk

-Ginn walk...and come back

-LaFell walk

-D-Wills get cut

We went to the friggin' Super Bowl last year. Errrbody calm down.

    • If Canales comes back and Bryce doesn’t I would probably prefer to bring in 3 guys he likes from around the league or maybe outside a top ten pick and work through them, give that a shot. Because if we win a few more games we won’t be in the running for the top rated QB prospects anyway.
    • You mean tepper but yeah I agree about rhule   Baker is a top 3 potential qb that is play for mvp and he is doing it with a slew of injuries
    • There’s too many to reply to so I’ll just say a couple more things then I’m out: 1. It hasn’t been both ways and that’s the point. People saying stuff like “too bad Bryce Young didn’t make that tackle” is a direct result of the ridiculousness of blaming Bryce Young for literally everything. I remember one game day thread a poster unironically blamed Bryce Young for JT Sanders flipping onto his own neck and injuring himself. That post was pied. I literally just read a post blaming Bryce Young for XL dropping a ball on a would-be game winning drive last year. This past week, when Tmac bounced a ball off his hands for an interception, Bryce Young was immediately blamed in the game day thread. Alternatively, people who try to give credit to Bryce Young are immediately told that to credit Bryce Young is taking away credit from Rico Dowdle, OL, whoever, and that they shouldn’t be talking positively about Bryce Young because he doesn’t deserve any credit. 2. Yes, there have always been bad posters, the difference is that back then they were largely derided. Bryce Young’s rookie season, when many of us were simply pointing at the train wreck of the whole team and saying it was maybe a little tough to evaluate Bryce Young when he had no time to throw and slow receivers, and just saying basic stuff like “Bryce Young can physically throw the ball further than 20 yards.” There was an attempt made to limit all those opinions to a single thread, by a mod. This is like saying lunatics running the asylum is normal because there have always been lunatics in the asylum. The difference is before they were patients, now they’re in charge. 3. I know for a fact I am labeled as one of the “Bryce Stans” by many of the usual suspects, but the fact of the matter is they have no idea what my position is on Bryce Young because any attempts at nuanced discussion in the past have been so completely pointless due to never being able to get past the hyperbole. How can we have a serious conversation if you insist he is physically incapable of throwing a football 20 yards? Or if you insist that he somehow duped the Panthers into drafting him just by drinking water? Or if you insist that he should be able to succeed behind one of the worst offensive lines I’ve ever seen (rookie year, not now). And I’m not the only one, there are many who have left the huddle because of it and started a discord server, I’m just too lazy for another app.
