What would KK Short fetch in a trade?

He's only had 1 good season and I would let him walk to be honest. See what happened to Suh

He'll leave and have one of the best seasons of his career for another team?

Hardly seems ideal.

I also don't want to start the developing pro bowl talent for other teams because Gettleman has this price point system.. You have to pay your own talent you developed if they "develop".. I understood the Norman thing was a special case because of his age, position, and asking price.. But KK is young at a valued position and headed for stardom.. Pay the Man..

look bro, I've been doing this poo in madden (joke) for years. You grow your talent and sell it off.

If you believe in your system (where have you heard that word before?) and you believe in yourself as a scout (I think DG believes in DG), then shopping KK is a no brainer.

My price would be a 1st and a rookie contract guy or a 1 and a 3. I'd take that all day.

Dumb argument. You said players don't get traded in the NFL. Then you admitted they do. Big name players. Even if it's rare (not that rare) it still happens. That being said I hope we can sign KK to a long term deal but if he wants more than we can do we have to explore all options. One player doesn't make a team as Gettleman has said repeatedly. We have a beast defensive line with or without KK.

"effectively no players get traded" - happy? Furthermore, it's not a dumb argument at all- statistically the number of players traded vs. the number of active NFL players is really small.

Philly was having a fire sale, and was literally blowing people's minds with how trigger happy they were being.

You don't sell talent going into their prime at valued position like (QB, Pass rushers,  LT, and CB)... A pass rushing run stopping DT is hard to find.. Last one we had was Kris Jenkins?? Think about that..

We could always franchise tag him for a year, so that would mean he's in Carolina for at minimum two seasons. I know DG doesn't like to use the tag on 1 year rentals but every situation is different. DT in our defense is way more important than a CB. KK as of now has shown that he also isn't the nut case that Hardy is either. If KK is truly after Cox money he can get it just in another 2-3 years.

Ironically the nut case LOVED being a Panther, was loved by his teammates coaches and GMan enough to get the tag, loved getting the tag, and considered it a badge of honor.  DG said he doesn't deal in hypotheticals but KK's reaction after getting the tag is purely hypothetical.

The real question is, who else do you spend the money on?  We let Norman walk for a reason.  Star won't command that kind of money.  Sure, Turner and Norwell need to be locked up, but guards are somewhat affordable compared to other positions.  Stewart's huge cap hit will come off the books soon, and most of our other core is locked up.

If you are going to spend on a player, you do so on franchise QBs, MLBs, and pass rushing DTs.  A DT who can get double digit sacks is rare.  Pay the man.  He is worth it.

LT can also be a pricey position, but I'm thinking Oher will be pretty reasonable to extend given his age and history.  He is clearly a player who knows how important the right fit and right coach is, so I think he'll factor those things in as he considers our offer.  Top CBs are also pricey (as we know all too well).  But we don't have any of those at the moment to worry about needing to pay.   And then there are DEs.  CJ is currently a steal at a one year 3 million contract.  If Ealy balls out, that will be a major contract.  (Addison might not be chump change, either, and who knows if CJ will "prove it" this year and demand a lot more to stick around for a few more years).  And Benji could turn into a top WR in the league, also requiring a pricey conract...

I've posted a lot more about the contract levels for top players at each position in a new thread...

Alot of people only see value in the talent of the player but that is the wrong way of looking at it. Value is tied to talent AND how much cap space they take up. If KK is offered 20mil by another team then we simply can not keep him regardless of talent because at that point his cost overrides his worth to the team. Just for example, Cam becomes a cancer if he ever took up 60-70% of the cap despite his mvp season because you can't pay anyone else on the team. We would have a team of philly browns at every position except 4 or 5.
