Bene to start camp on Pup

Bene's injury looked horrific at the time. If I remember correctly Bene was burned (as is typical) and trying to catch up to the receiver, and then the break occurred. I remember it being pretty disgusting looking, like massive damage must have occurred. Our DB coach must be in panic mode by now. He's got very little time to make huge leaps with the new guys. Preseason might be ugly, but who knows.

Per Ron Rivera on his first training camp interview on periscope. I think this is huge in a way because the young CB's will get a ton of reps while Bene continues to rehab and get better.

Not huge, it means he is behind schedule and he is our best CB.

paying Norman $15M a year pretty much guarantees KK's departure next year. Also, Dave would probably have to severely low ball Coleman, Oher, and Kali and those extensions probably don't get done.

You're right about KK but don't we still have like 20 million under the cap?  We could have still extended the other guys.  As for KK he's great but we would still have quality proven DTs behind him. We don't have that at corner. We pretty much have no experience after Bene and he's A number 2 corner at best

It's a little premature to judge that decision before a single game has been played.

I want to know what's up with Johnson's ankle. Non football related? He has more experience than Bene but not with this defense.

According to either Ron or DG yesterday (forget which video it was - I watched both) it's Johnson's Achilles.  He had surgery following the season.  Sounds like they're mostly just being cautious, wanting to give him some more rehab time.

The Non-Football Related designation is because it wasn't an injury or surgery while he was under contract to a team.  He had the surgery after he had already been released, unlike Bene who was injured in a game he was playing.  Otherwise, I think the NFI list and PUP list are pretty much the same?

We always get to talking like this and its ok to be a little scared, but c'mon. We had this whole conversation about the receiving core last season and ended up with scoring title. I think G-man trusts the coaches here to get the next guy ready. I don't think we will see any issues.

Except that it doesn't look like Short is going to stay here either.  The franchise tag next year is looking very likely and it may just be another Norman situation.    If we refuse to pay market value for our players, they will walk, that's just how it goes, agree with it or not.  If you're going to pay someone, a CB is usually the one to pay.   I'm worried we're going to figure that out this year, especially after this news.   If Short has another dominating year, he's basically gone I think.

Don't really agree. Intelligent players realize that if you want to build a championship team, sacrifices have to be made. Players who put money first like Josh and possibly KK (don't want to assume anything yet), then let them walk. DG is building a dynasty in Carolina right now. Do you want to play for a playoff contending team year and year for a little less than market, or do you want to play on a bottom dwelling poo show team like Washington for market? The decision is up to you.

Cool, point out those players for me.  No, not the ones who have played 15 years and already rich (Brady, Manning).   This idea that players give up millions just to win, especially early, is silly.  It's just not true.

you can make the case that Cam, Luke's and Coleman's extensions were all below market. Now I can't tell you that for sure given Cam's and Luke' extensions came before the salary cap increase, but I guarantee you if they played out their contracts and tested the open market, they would have gotten a lot more. Especially Coleman. You don't think a team like the 49ers would have thrown $10M+ plus at him if he waited one more year. $6.5M is a steal, and the only reason he took less is b/c he loves Carolina, he has family here, and he knows DG is building a dynasty, which he very much wants to be a part of.

Cam has endorsements and it made more sense than playing under franchise, etc.  Luke was about right.  Coleman is a system safety that wouldn't make much anywhere else.
