DE is a YUGE issue

Just stupid...Cam is a Megastar and the reigning MVP. I wouldn't trade him for ANY active player. BTW, as you can tell I don't post much, but the OP in this thread is so ridiculously idiotic It brought this lurker out of hiding to pile on. What's worse, this guy is doubling down on the stupid and refuses to acknowledge his idea is weapons grade idiotic. Somewhere PU is smiling.

so with game 1 behind us we know that DE is a YUGE issue.....we also have great assets to maybe get rid of to make the position go from weakness to greatness....

so..here is what i think

Maybe we are able to work out a deal with the Rams to get Donald and Quinn for Cam and Starr.....DA is good enough to win it all for us and with Quinn Donald Short Ealy....OMG that is redic

not sure if the rams would do this or not ...but would be worth a shot?

Great idea!

You do realize if you make the trade Ealy is the one back on the bench. CJ and Quinn would start.

You are also hurting the running game by removing Cam. This team relies on the running game and it is predicated on Cam. The passing game is not the Panthers strength and any QB not named Cam would suffer in this offense long term with receivers who drop balls 50% of the time.

I too believe Derek Anderson could lead many teams in the NFL to the playoffs. I wonder why teams waste their time on garbage like Mark Sanchez, Josh McCown, and Joe Flacco when they can have a QB like Derek Anderson.

The DE position is a huge weakness, and it will be exploited by the league if CJ goes down to injury.

No way would I entertain trashing the Panthers running game in favor of generating a pass rush from the outside with an older player like Quinn.

I would rather Gettleman trade away a second round pick for Quinn since he is just going to waste it come the next draft on a player he could have gotten in the 3rd round. Then you keep Cam and get Quinn so Ealy can sit his unreliable butt on the bench. 30% of the defensive snaps a game is all Ealy should see.

    • I think you mean relevant but they have been fine, the problem is the lack of in game adjustments.  He has also been just decent at recruiting.  Duke having tons of success hurts and just fine isn’t good enough at UNC.
    • I don't see it as drafting a premium player to sit and wait if Walker gets hurt. We need a legitimate swing T. Unless you have a Sewell or Slater type tackle that is pretty much a sure thing, these guys can need some time to develop year 1 just like a QB ideally should. They all haven't played the elite 5 star talent on the edge. If we think another franchise tackle has dropped to us at 19, you have to pull the trigger. The position is just too damn hard to find. If it's just a "we need a tackle and this guy has a T on the board", yeah, move on, take one in the later rounds. But if that guy is there, let him back up and learn a year, then slide him into LT on year 2 of his rookie deal.  I don't see us being able to offer Walker a multi year contract after a prove it year, pay Moton his final almost fully guaranteed year, Hunt, Lewis a center and do a 50-60m extension for Bryce. The 3 most important positions on the field are QB, blindside tackle (usually LT), and edge rusher. Those are the premium positions that cost the most and are hardest to come by. If a starting caliber talent is there at 19 you have to pull the trigger.  I understand the need for a DT and S. I've been on the C and FS train for years. If we weren't staring at a potential Bryce extension, it'd make the decision a lot easier I think. It's just with all these huge contracts I don't see how we can hedge our bets on being able or even wanting to re-sign Walker, especially if he has a bad year. Icky and BC's injuries really hurt our long term plans.  If no blue chip talent at those 3 key positions are available at 19, by all means pass and draft another position. But I think it's pretty safe to say we don't have a guaranteed lock at any of them right now beyond Phillips, and they have to be somewhat of a priority.
    • Not completely accurate. I'm sure Roy is lobbying for him and Larry Brown has spoke put in support too. But Hansbrough has made comments pretty critical and hinting at a need for change. Joel Berry has gone a step further and said the standard has not been met. Scott Williams who was a teammate of Hubert's at Carolina has gone all the way and said it's time for a change at head coach.
