Smitty 4 life.

Again I have to ask why is it that the people with the dumbest takes always have "Tar Heel" in their name?

Who in their right mind trashes Smitty?  The guy that gave us a reason to watch panther football for years while we sucked fat greasy ass bubbles out of roadkill raccoons.

I can instantly tell the new generation of fans (or the child of a Smitty hater) by how they reference the absolute best player to ever lace em up for us.

Just an FYI, you look dumb.  Get educated.

Ill always root for smitty. That dude is a monster. He gave everything to this organization and he balled hard for us. I hope he makes it to Canton because he is truly one of the more feared receivers ever this game has seen at his size. He deserves to be in Canton and if the Panthers were to all a sudden shut down I would go for Baltimore. I wish he was here in his final year. I hope he retires a panther (although I dont see that happening). But I do wish him best of luck this year and he goes out ballin'.

Tougher than a nickel steak, meaner than a junkyard dog. Smitty will play for as long as he wants to and he'll be a starter that will out work and out play anyone else on the field.

We didn't let him go because he was worn out and useless. We let him go because there can only be alpha dog for a team. It was the best move for us as a team. Still hated to see him go, though.

It's hard to bet against Smitty's passion and dedication. He's proven many people wrong all throughout his career. If he can lay the wood against Father Time this year, I wouldn't mind at all.

Whether he'd retire as a Panther, I honestly believe that to be a moot point. Even if he refuses to ever come back into our fold, history isn't going to remember him as a Baltimore Raven. Most of his major accomplishments was with us.

You guys do know Father Time is undefeated, right?  When he barley gets 500 yards this year.  Father Time will be smiling down on him.  I wonder if you guys would still take up for him, if he retired a Raven?  I'm going to assume, probably not.

He can retire a Raven if he so chooses but it will never take away him being a Panther.  The majority of his career is with Carolina.  More importantly Jake Delhomme and Smitty.  Jake had as much to do with his success as he did himself.   If Jake wasn't the gunslinger he was and had the faith in Smitty to come out of a double or triple team, Steve may never have had all those receptions.

Highlights don't change.  If he goes into the Hall of Fame (which IMO he will) the majority of highlights will be from his time as a Carolina Panther.  Plus they put all the teams a player played on their placards below the bust.  I know I was at HOF in June.

Barley? Do we need some Hops too? Make a new style of beer?  JK

This is Smitty's last year so he'll go out with a Bang.  Baltimore has another WR threat so Smitty might see a ton of one on ones.   He'll finish his career 2016 pushing if not exceeding 1000 yds.

Good grief bunch of homers.

Was Smitty good player. Yes.

GOAT for Panthers yes. In the league top 10.

Smitty had to go his time with the Panthers ran his course 3 years longer than it should. Smitty was a bad teammate and mentor.

Homers?  Because they believe he'll have a good season and be in the HOF?

No one here said anything about bringing him back or his ability to get along.

Or maybe that is the direction you want this conversation to go... you know reverse psychology poo.

It's a valid argument.  Rice had many great years and is one of the greatest WRs to ever play the game but Smitty was, is a force.  At 37 and teams still game planning for him.

If you ask me who was the greatest WR I would probably say Rice.  Numbers don't lie.   But I am a strong supporter that Smitty will be in the HOF.  Who made more highlight real catches.   Hands Down Smitty. More dangerous? Smitty.  Rice was in a system with a great QB.  Only ifs apply how great Smitty would have been with a Great QB.  Jake Delhomme's Panther Lore is about 95% because of Smitty.

Smith isn't the best WR of his time much less all time. Let's be realistic. He has some serious competition in his own time frame to bear our in order to make the HOF. Is it possible, yes.......but not exactly likely.

No, no its not.  Not valid at all.

More dangerous?  LOL, what?  Like seriously, Jerry Rice is the GOAT for a reason.  Hell, I would take Randy Moss over Smitty too.

    • Umm yeah. When did he get it done at the right time? I seem to remember a 4-6 finish and needing Atlanta to win our way into the playoffs but whatever.
    • I mean....no lies detected. See above. We have traded a fortune to draft a guy #1 overall that people have lowered standards for to the point that not playing like Jimmy Clausen and looking like a poor man's Kyle Allen occasionally is worthy of a contract extension making him one of the highest paid QB's in the league. That is cope on steroids.
    • summary: "let's talk about your draft, what did you think about Freeling" Dan:   guys with a huge upside, can come in and compete to start.  High ceiling "he does what for your offense?" Dan:   it's hard to find left tackles, guys that big and athletic.  We have Icky coming off an injury, we signed Walker, I believe your offensive line can never be too strong.  If we're going to win the game, it's gotta be up front on both sides of the ball, so we make a point of emphasis on making both sides of the front as strong as possible. "how many mocks did you see Monro falling to you." Not many times, left tackles are gonna go a lot earlier than when we took him.  We want to add the best player, in free agency or the draft"  that's our philosophy, to get the best players possible. "Hunter and Brazzell." Dan:  we followed the board.  Lee we felt very highly of him , super strong.  Brazzel so flexible and loose, can open the verticle.  Will Lee we held in high regard. "you take a look at your receiver room, Coker, my goodness, your offensive rookie of the year in Tet.  Lost Rico, but there is Jonathan Brooks. " Brooks coming off two knee injuries, he worked his way back, looking great, fully healthy, will help in pass and run game.  Icky, not sure when he's coming back but we're excited about both "plan on extending Bryce" we'll keep talking, will keep internally.  We believe in him, has such a great grasp of Canales and offense, has improved every year. "he's clearly come back from the benching, the arrow is trending up, where does he feel" Bryce knows where we stand with him, when and if a deal gets done, he knows we feel great with him, we'll get something done at the right time. "if this a prove it situation?" everyone in the building has to prove it, has to earn it. Tmac was everything we wanted, his work ethic, he's so big and talented, but he puts the work in, and is a great teammate. "your level of expectation, the building's level of expectation for 2026 "our goal is to win the division every year, we know we have to earn it.  we have to put the work in every day, proving it on the practice field, and our  guys know that." "schedule" we haven't opened at home in 2 or 3 years.  We love prime time games, hope we get some "
