Daryl Worley: ‘I Was Very Unimpressed With the Way I Played’

I'm not ready to panic or give up on the guy, but I hope we aren't so dedicated to a youth movement at CB that we force him out there before he's ready. You don't want to shatter a young guy's confidence by getting him lit up when he's not ready to be out there. Confidence is a huge factor for a CB.

That right there is a perfect example of what I stated in another thread. The ball placement was just about perfect and the WR made a play. It's hard for any veteran CB to stop that, much less a rookie playing in his second preseason game. Sometimes you just have to tip your hat to the opponent.

Sharpe was unbelievable. I'm glad the Panthers played the Titans because I was able to see him up close and now I can hopefully get Sharpe in all my leagues and start him in DraftKings. Wouldn't have pulled the trigger based on internet articles. The guy looks like a young Andre Johnson. Glad we don't play the Titans for another 3 years.

As for Worley, the defense this season was always going to be gambling on turnovers more than trying to play lockdown defense, you pretty much have to starting two rookie corners. It will be similar to last year, where we look like we can't stop anyone for stretches. We just have to play great offense again and hope the turnovers come.

This is exactly why I said we should pick up a veteran corner. You can't expect these guys to play well out of the gate. You also don't have to suffer through a bunch of rookie mistakes while they learn. The vet can start and these guys can grow and mature as they gain more familiarity with our scheme. Part of the reason he wasn't aggressive is that he isn't experienced enough in what we do to know where to be without thinking about it. That comes with time and tons of film work. If we were cap strapped or rebuilding it would make sense to start rookies but we aren't either. They are doing as well as they can. But not well enough to start for a team expecting to return to the Superbowl.

I think Worley did okay. He made tackles and didn't give up any touchdowns or yards after the catch. Tajae Sharpe was catching some high passes that were basically undefendable. I also noticed our corners were playing about ten yards back which  give up short passes.

look for this game to be a learning opportunity.

I can remember in 2012 Josh Norman was getting some PT as a young guy. He gave up so much cushion Brandon Marshall caught one pass after another on a game winning drive for the bears. Just watching it you were a little dumbfounded on how he thought that would work. But eventually he figured things out and became the player he is today.

I have a feeling the top 3 corners may end up being Bradberry, Bene, and Sanchez, but we'll see.

Not a bad line up if Worley isn't ready. Having Bene able to play well in either role allows us the luxury of not having to force Worley out there IF he needs a little more time. I still think that ultimately, Worley will take the second outside spot.

    • The term you're looking for is "malinger(ed)", and he didn't.  I'm not sure why Panthers fans act like jaded ex girlfriends.  The dude is clearly injury prone as his time in San Fransico also proves. It's not like he got to San Fran and stopped having problems.
    • My long and rambling post:   The guy is all heart, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he came back even better next year. He’s exactly the guy you lock up. The money won’t ever change the way he plays.  It was a big fumble, but what 1,000 yard back fumbles once in an entire season?  Pride. This team is FINALLY seeing guys who obviously take the game very seriously. Hunt, Chuba, Thielen, Brown, Horn (CB), Coker, Bryce (IMHO). Bye bye, Spider-Man. I don’t see these dudes being OK with teammates half-assing practice or in games. I can see Brown and Horn coming over to talk to somebody.  Good team? Ummm, maybe, but will still likely lose more close games than they win unless this last draft turns in to LOB part 2. That’s a stretch.  Pretty good/decent team. Yes. They finished the season as a pretty good team. I know I sound like a broken record harping back to it, but going in to ATL and putting a 40 burger on them en route to an OT win. A bad Panthers team would have had their brakes beaten off. We’ve seen it.  Rose colored glasses on and bonging a 40 of hopium: There are watershed moments that occur that change the course of franchises, both good and bad. If Fox doesn’t pull Rodney at halftime, the epic journey that was 2003 never happens. On the negative side, Cam taking that one hit from Watt was the end of any and all Panthers relevancy and we’ve been the biggest losers in all of pro sports as a result. Watershed moments. LOB draft. Vinny goes down and the goat is born.  Will the ATL game be the spark that this franchise has desperately needed? Could it be that they hit the mega million jackpot with Princley and Scourton as eat QBs for breakfast? Sure would be nice having 2 all-pro edge guys on the cheap for the next 4 years.  A lot of unknowns, but at least it actually feels  fun again.
    • Ok LT and Petersen are a cut above everyone else to me cmc and Faulk are interchangeable on this list.  though Faulk was better career wise
