Trenton Robinson is going to be out a long time

Praying for him for a successful surgery.

One nice thing this year is that we don't have to specifically designate who's the "IR - Designated to return" player.  We can pick any player who's been on the IR for the required length of time (6 weeks?)  That gives some flexibility for late in the season with these guys who are starting the season on the IR, based on how they're recovering, and what position we're most needy at.

If will be interesting to see whether we waive/injured Johnson, or keep him until 1st cuts, thus ensuring he can't be poached.  Given that 1st cuts are in a week, I'm not sure we'd necessarily jump to bring in a 90th guy on the roster.

Right. We're probably going to put him on IR in the next few days and just with 89 guys until the 75 man cut down deadline.

Shame though, I thought he could have been good depth at safety. Although I think a healthy Dean Marlowe would have beaten him out for a roster spot.

Panthers S Trenton Robinson suffered a torn pectoral in the second preseason game and is expected to miss the entire season.
Robinson is undergoing surgery on Wednesday. He was signed to provide depth and be a special teams force. Robinson will be a free agent next March. Aug 24 - 10:45 AM

incredible how few of our FA signings this year are even in consideration for a roster spot.

Brandon Boykin - Cut

Trenton Robinson - injured, out for the year

Leonard Johnson - on the PUP / NFI list with no news about when he might be activated

We've still got Gradkowski and Soliai..., both of whom should make the 53.

...and of course we also brought in guys like Hawkins using Futures contracts, and just signed Willie Smith too.  But in terms of traditional Free Agent signings, we may be at an all time low in terms of FA roster additions.

There is alot of truth in this. I think I would like to give credit to the coaching staff on this one. They seem to be able to get alot out of guys when we've had them a few years. I look at the receiving core and the way we drafted 3 DB's. It tells me that our staff does something pretty special when it comes to getting the most out of our guys that isn't done in the rest of the NFL.

    • Cards weren't really blitzing that much the entire game.  The ones they sent just wrecked Bryce.  My opinion is you are over fixated on what happened as we got close to the goal.   The one possession we had in the 3rd quarter? That was a freebie to get down there.  It was literally just checkdowns to the TE when we weren't running the ball down... 24 taking up the entire quarter.  Next quarter Cards were inviting the exact same behavior.  Which is why they were both clock eating small ball 14 play drives.
    • I don't think they changed as much as you think between the INT and the final sack (immediate pressure with 4 linemen). They definitely stopped blitzing as much, if a blitz means rushing more than the front 4/5. They definitely did some exotic packages where they sent LBs/DBs and dropped linemen into coverage though. The fumble and INT were both blitzes. And yes they were successful. And yes, I agreed with Bryce not taking care of the ball. Really not many answers on those plays - just take the sack and live another play (unless you're Lamar). Which he didn't do. And no, you can't run prevent on the goal line. What's prevent defense to you? Alignment, personnel, cushion, etc.? Just curious. My reply was to the post that they sat back in some soft zone the whole game - until the end, when it mattered. That's not true. They blitzed, they disguised coverages and blitzers, they pressed, they bailed, they covered the flats, all of that. Not trying to argue. Just trying to inform. Actually they only blitzed once on the final drive, and the DB got away with a bad hold on Tremayne. Otherwise looked like it would have been a completion for a first down. The Cardinals' final drive defense looked a lot like the rest of the game.  I know it's easy to get upset after a lose (I'm guilty), but Mondays are when cooler heads prevail. Right? Emotions can make us seem like we don't know what we're talking about. The Huddle isn't supposed to be that. I always saw it as a place to go discuss the Carolina Panthers with more than the casual fan, and their emotionally charged opinions. I can get that at the local grocery store, where they don't know anything about NC/SC, let alone the Panthers.
