Drew Brees wants to retire a Saint. But he wants 4 years/100 million dollars from the Saints.

They are trying to sneak him on the PS by waiting until now to cut him.

If so, it could back fire. There are some QB needy teams out there. I thought Grayson was talked up quite a bit and that he should be at least a decent QB. He may not make it through waivers.

So last year's Aints draft class has

  • a 1st round #13 overall OT that can't displace RT Zach Strief and is being bounced around the line looking for a position to play, who needs to be pushed by the released and re-signed withered husk of Jahri Evans
  • a 1st round MLB whose average lateral agility and sideline to sideline range allowed slot receivers and TEs to flourish, displaced to SLB by the nearly 30 year James Laurinaitis, who was dumped by the Rams because he's not special enough anymore to be worth the $5.25 million in cap space the Rams saved from his release
  • a 2nd OLB that tore the same ACL twice in college has now torn it for the 3rd time
  • a 3rd round QB who was just waived
  • a 5th round OLB that was on IR all of last year and waived this year
  • a 5th round CB that played in 7 games and had to be placed on IR because he received more concussions (3) than actual game starts (2)

And now when they can see the light at the end of salary cap hell, the oncoming train of Brees' new contract with more than $25 million per year will crash into their $29 million of cap space next year

This is what happens when the Aints GM is also the Pelicans GM. Being there half the time leads to a half ass job

People on this board key in to the saints financial state so heavily but this has always been what its about with new Orleans

Their front office is a comedy and nobody with that organization can properly evaluate players.

Brees has carried that organization

to be fair, Peat is just starting his 2nd season, and OL takes a while.  Plus they've moved him all over the line trying to find a place where's he effective.

But to be fair to you, they haven't found that place yet.

If you have read saints boards they are calling bust. Dude gets abused and has shown no signs of getting acclimated to the nfl level

IMO, someone drafted at #13 overall shouldn't be trying to find a spot. His spot should have been nailed down when he took his picture with the commish in Chicago on draft day last year

    • Trade up for a project was dumb, he's gonna be 25 next month. By the time you're deciding on whether he's worth the 5th year option or a big contract you're already gonna be thinking about moving on soon either way.
    • I mean this is legit AF statement....you don't spend that draft capital on a project just like you don't trade up for an injured RB either, which was done in the same draft.  That draft IMO was a necessary evil for DM to learn from his mistakes (I think he did but some may not). Also I have to mention I'm a big Coker fan and think getting him as an UDFA was obv a steal.  Coker is the better WR2 at this point as Legette and its not even debatable unfortunately.  Give him year 3 but don't expect much from him.  Continue in the offseason with adding as much talent and competition on the roster as possible including WR.  Or just trade his ass for peanuts and continue to build roster by any means.......
    • Losing him was a huge loss. Look at how the Bears went from a 5 win team to now a 11 win team. The Lions offensive line is bad this year, secondary is bad and Campbell going for it on 4th down all the time has cost them games instead of taking the Field Goals. Goff is inconsistent as well.
