Anyone else doesn't fully trust Gano?

Blair Walsh, the guy that missed the chip shot for the Vikings that would have given them the lead against the Seahawks in the playoffs, is the 10th most accurate kicker of all time. He makes 85% of his kicks. Graham Gano is 48th and makes 80% but doesn't play half his games in a dome.

Misses happen and stats are misleading.

Thats why you dont leave the game on a kickers hand, just have to score more points.

Honestly there have maybe been 5-10 kickers in league history that I would feel completely comfortable with in the clutch.

Gano is solid. Would you rather have Mare back?

And let's not forget Kasay and the game winning kickoff he gave Tom Brady. Nobody is perfect.

Kasay literally made like 6 game winning FG's that year. Our defensive back who was playing with a broken foot was what lost us that game, and Tom is the GOAT.

My point wasn't to downplay Kasay, but to point out that someone the OP "trusted" also had his share of bad moments.

Gano is a solid kicker and I'm glad we have him. I mean he made the first kick on Thursday, but missed the rekick after being "iced."

Too many people just living in the moment and forgetting how "fantastic" our other kickers were once Kasay was gone.

How many of Gano FG last season came in the middle of the game, when we were leading with zero pressure?

No one is jumping to conclusion, everyone pretty much agrees Gano is middle of the road

Our 2003 Super Bowl season Kasay hit 50% from 50 yards and beyond.  Hit 84% on the year.

2015 Gano also hit 50% from 50 and beyond on the same number of kicks and hit 83% on the year.

it was a 50 yard kick with a bad snap.  He missed.  It happens.  Much more concerned with our entire secondary being a liability vs the run and pass

Its not just percentages. He misses important field goals more frequently than he should. He missed an important one in the Super Bowl. The secondary concerns me but I'm also aware we always struggle with run fits early in the season.

    • Yeah I don't really care. Stupid greed and conference realignment has killed midmajors having a real chance. To me schedule is irrelevant if you win every game in the regular season.  Regardless of level of competition you deserve your spot in the 64 if you finish the regular season with 3 or fewer losses. They're going to get their ass kicked round 1 but I wish more smaller conference teams would refuse to play power 4 competition and muddy the waters a bit. Outside of the opening weekend, bracket buster Saturday was my favorite day of college basketball. If they do expand the tournament I want more 26-4 regular season winning teams and less 17-15 12th place big ten teams in the tournament.
    • We could call him "The Anchor" for years to come
    • Both goals came on bad turnovers- one in the neutral zone, the other behind the net.  The D nor the goalie could have stopped either. Defense did their job, holding them to 16 shots, but transitioning to offense, they just turned the puck over too many times. The top line was MIA and RBA was playing the 4th line more.  It's choke time. The Canes will go .500 down the stretch and will likely fall to a 2 or 3 seed.
