Hawkins over D Williams?

Shocker to me. Is the staff this down on Williams or what? He's a bruiser of a run blocker and of course needs a lot of work in pass pro, but still figured he'd be ahead of Hawkins. Especially at RT, his better and more natural position.

Williams came in as G when Trai Turner came down. Maybe they see him more as interior after evaluating him in preseason

Yea Hawkins got  blow up on that play , rather have Williams out there.

I don't understand how Daryl looked so good last offseason that he might've taken Remmers job and was showing all this promise up until this year. This year according to the coaches, he has regressed and can't even beat out a journeyman for the backup role. He's either really lazy, ala Jeff Otah, or the coaches aren't doing something right.

Looks like Williams is a future interior lineman.

He came in to sub for Trai when he was injured.

Not at all unusual for a college right tackle to wind up playing inside at the pro level.

When Remmers got hurt for a series.

If you could not beat out Remmers, you would likely regress too and be relegated to backing up Turner and Norwell for the remainder of your Panthers career.

Hell, weren't they giving Williams looks at both RT and LT last year in camp? That doesn't sound like a guy who ends up at OG. But, if that's the decision it's the decision. Either way, we need to find a way to upgrade the OT spot. Oher is on the wrong side of 30 and Remmers is a JAG. Doesn't look like Williams will be the answer we hoped for, but that's not exactly unexpected. Not many starting OTs are found in the 4th round.
