How do we turn the defense around?

Never thought i would have to say that our defense is one of our teams biggest weakness especially  after the great squad we had last year . if you told me matt ryan and julio would combine for almost a thousand yards on us id would laugh in your face but this is reality, we need to make changes asap.  it first starts with tre boston and coleman , coleman has to go back to fs and boston needs to be benched asap . i wasn't impressed  with griffen but i think hes better than boston . For corner gettleman has to make some type of move , we are not in rebuild mode !! this is a win now team we only have so much longer to win a damn superbowl our time is running out make a trade or pick someone up from the street because our players are not doing anything .Bene needs to be moved inside he cant cover big fast wrs like julio and will get killed by mike evans .

Whorely should never see the field again , he looked so lost . mcclain idk about him but he is nothing special , hes not a starter in this league to be honest and bradberry. bradberry is our best cb but hes not looking like a # 1 cb he would be a solid # 2 if they allow him to play up and press his receivers . Now who do we turn too? do we bring back finnegan? find another bum that we can hope plays better then our starters?

Next step is pass rush , which doesn't exist  it was only 3 years ago when we led the nfl in sacks wtf happend? ealy has been a ghost this year same with kk and  charles johnson our leading sack leader is edwards and star !! thats how bad we suck we need to bench ealy asap maybe give Edward's the start he looks like the only decent one and we need to see more of mario addison as well . we can possibly pick up coples from free agency to maybe help us . yea i know my grammar is terrible in this but im writing this on the train to work because i need to get this stuff off my chest but anyone else got any suggestions post them below.

I DONT WANT TO LOOK FOWARD TO  FREEAGENCY AFTER WEEK 4 WE NEED TO TURN THINGS AROUND WE HAVE WAY TOO MUCH TALENT TO BE SUCKING!!!

starts with the LOS.  this defense was built to own it.  now that that isn't happening they have taken some big steps back. our secondary was always a weakness, but this year it is even more so due to inexperience and not much talent.  the two units (DBs and front) are feeding off one another's suckness.  luke looks frustrated as fug at how stretched the LB unit has been.  i don' think he likes playing with these young DBs much at all.

again though, it all comes down to the guys on the line.  star, short, CJ, easy, etc. these guys have blown donkey dicks and they have no excuses.  their ineptitude has our entire defense on skates.  they aren't even stopping the run.

By fixing the pass rush. I posted this in another thread but I'll post them here too.

No pressure from the front 4 means we are being forced to blitz more which means more single coverage in the secondary with struggling secondary. Last year the secondary was so good that it gave the front 4 time to get pressure. This year it is not. There are two ways to fix it. Get pressure with the front 4 to make the secondary's job easier or get a better secondary to allow the front 4 more time to create pressure. We have neither.

The DTs are fine. With Love back in the rotation with KK and Star I trust the three guys there to get it done. DE is the issue, I'd switch Ealy to the other side and straight up cut CJ now. No sentiment involved from me thanks for the memories bye bye, he looks tired looks old and if I see another he's so slow reference il scream! Looking at possible trades there is nobody who is worth giving much up for in all honesty. Cameron Wake, Jabaal Sheard are two guys who's deals are coming to an end and may be expendable to AFC out of conference teams, but I doubt less than a 3rd-5th gets them.. Our safeties are horrible even Coleman(yes I said it) he lives off last season, and is a fans fave so is beyond criticism mostly, Boston takes his heat in my opinion, for now only option is to move Coleman to FS and sign someone like Whitner, may be slow but can't be any worse than Harper was, savvy vet who may just offer more than Boston who is lucky to even be a backup in my opinion. We need a corner from somewhere, again a trade seems likely, so we need a poor team who may be looking to the future? The Browns! Been said before but Haden is gettable.. I'd give up a third a late rounder and Klein for him, any trade infact we make I'd offer Klein, were strong at LB in depth and I think teams would value him plus he's entering his final year. Haden would upgrade the corner position and pairing him with Bradberry wouldn't then look so bad going forward not just now! We cannot address all these holes, this is the issue when you plug and play for so long eventually it'll catch up with you.

Wake has basically been benched in Miami and Sheard is a key player for the Pats. Wake could probably be had but he isn't that good anymore and has a big contract. Age and coming off an achilles injury. He's more or less the same as CJ right now. He only played 15 snaps against the Bengals on Thursday.

Honestly, next week I'd start Addison with the other side being up for grabs.  We have no pass rush at all.  I saw our ends get washed behind the pocket CONSTANTLY yesterday and there is no pressure, so we HAVE to start getting pressure, even if it means sacrificing some rush defense in order to make it happen.  Secondly, Move Boston back to a reserve role, Coleman moves to Free Safety, and put Michael Griffen at strong safety.  I'm not sure what Griffen still has left in the tank, but the guy has been an all pro safety and provides some age and knowledge to a group of DB's who seem like they're a week removed from pampers.  Unless we're making moves to pick up guys off the street or trading for someone, these are the best moves I can come up with to help our defense.

Can't be fixed in season IMO.

Now it can and will improve.  I believe that it will improve. Some guys will get better.

But the fact is we have a weak DB group in 2016 and weak DEs.  Same issues will exist all season to varies degrees.

I personally believe, Sanchez not Worley should be the on active roster.

Wake is a reach at this point I agree! Hasn't show much in his time in the league but at this point anything is something I guess, I thought about the sheard option he has a year left after this season, he is a key cog for the pats but they have a deep DE corps and like the chandler jones trade I think if the pats feel it's beneficial then the master tactician bellycheck might do it.. Who knows but they were my two options I could just about come up with.

    • You're assuming just as well.   Morgan and Canales were hired 3 days apart.  I believe it was partially due to their connections in Seattle.  i believe Tepper wanted some familiarity with his GM and HC.  It is so easy to sit back and arm-chair QB over draft picks.  You don't know what the philosophy was going into the 2024 draft.  I believe Canales and Morgan were drafting for the future.  XL and Brooks point to that philosophy. Name me one GM that is 100% on draft picks.  Just one.  You're not going to find one.    I think year one picks weren't for what can you do for me now but Potential.   XL hasn't lived up to the hype of a 1st rounder.  I think we all can agree on that. However, there still is hope he comes around.  What I believe they saw in him was his speed after the catch.  He needs to get more consistent but when he gets the ball you kind of hold your breath just a second because if he gets free, he's gone.  The Brooks pick was a signing for the future, and no one could have guessed he would re-injure the same ACL.  This makes the pick look bad but Dallas was ready to draft him later that same round.  IMO we'll have to see what happens next season before we can call this a bust. Wallace has improved each season and for a third rounder has done well.  Sanders has shown flashes and considering the pick in the 4th round it wasn't a bad pick.  His sophomore season IMO was a little bit more productive.  Smith-Wade has been a good addition and has played well.  For a 5th round pick to get as much playing time as he has.  Most picks below round 3 should take a couple of years to get up to speed.  He's been a decent player.  Crumedy, no comment We turned Barrett into Jackson.  This was an amazing move and basically got a starting CB for a 7th round pick.  Pretty shrewd if you ask me. Coker, maybe the best Free Agent signing of the 2024 draft class. So, in short, you can't say that the draft was a bust.  It isn't a home run but all but one are still on the team and outside of Brooks have made contributions to wins.  2025 draft class has been much better with almost every pick making contributions this season.  Now take Fitterer's two years and compare them to Morgan and tell me that they have the same philosophy.
    • He hasn’t led crap, he’s on loaded teams and a piece of the puzzle. And he’s he has improved drastically but it took the ultimate QB whispers in Shanahan and KOC. You put him on this Panther team and he’s back to normal Darnold
    • Slavin and Jarvis week to week. Florida cheap shots took out our two best players.  I’d start KK so he can beat the brakes off someone.
