He is my take. For what it's worth. Ron sitting in Gman's office eating Bojangle's, and talking football. Their draft board is pretty much set, and they are discussing their team. Why can't Oher, and Remmers, continue to play at this level? We had the #1 offense. We protected Cam pretty well. We ran the ball effectively. We have Williams, and Scott, if we can add/develop a couple of guys, that isn't too bad. Our Oline should be pretty good.

Why can't Bene, McClain, Coleman, Boston, and Marlowe cover for the rooks until they are ready to go? We did fairly well back there last year. Without Bene. We caused a good number of turnovers, and we did make it to the SuperB owl. Maybe we can make this work?

You know, maybe CJ has one more good year in him? We should be able to count on Ealy taking that next step. Addison is a solid pass rusher, and if a couple of the kids can take that next step too, we should be pretty good there as well.

LBs, we should be good. QB, yeah, we got this. RB, Stewy, CAP, Fozzy, and Tolbert should be as productive as last year. WR, getting KB back, with the development of Fun Fun, and having Teddy, and Philly should be really good. DT, for this year should be very good. The future is iffy though. But hey, let's worry about that later? Mkay?

We are returning 20 starters. We have kids we like. Man, are we sitting pretty.

So, we agree? We have a solid team. Let's hit that 1st rounder, then get us some CB talent.

Then 1-3 happens. The best laid plans and all that.

3 Years ago, the Raiders were a bad team, with lots of cap space. Now they have become a pretty good team. We are already a good team, with lots of cap space. Where do you see us trending? Do you still see a bright future? Do you envision the train to keep rolling right along for the foreseeable future? Or do you feel like the Panthers just don't like you? That they break your heart on purpose? Are you just plain sick and tired of being jerked around?

Personally, I think they took a calculated risk. And it almost worked. (Hellz, I guess it could still work, if we can turn this around.) If a couple of plays had gone differently, we very well could be 3-1, or better, and looking good for this year. WITH a lot of cap space for next year.

2014 everyone bitched about when are we going to put the young guys in there.  Rivera and staff waiting till it was almost too late.  Fortunately it wasn't and we still won the NFC South.

This year they pulled the plug a little early and hopefully it will light a fire under everyone not named Newton, Davis, Kuechly or Kalil.  And 4 those for will help with the fire.

I am certain we are turning this around.

Mistakes and some seriously rotten officiating hasn't helped either.

That's the difference between a bad GM and a good GM. Look at Elway just finished winning the SB, what does he do? He resigns Von, meanwhile DG lets go of Norman. He signs Okung, meanwhile DG sits on his ass and does nothing. Trades up to draft a position of need (QB), DG drafts  the position we least needed. Elway also signed Stephenson and resigned Anderson after Miami made an offer. Let me not even go further back Elway was always active in free agency.

And I have already explained this 20 times, Cam last year was an anomaly, that was the greatest season by a NFL player ( taking into account supporting cast) in the history of the league. No way in hell could Cam keep that pace up. He had 50 TD last year with, no qb in the history of the game has put up back to back 50 TD seasons.

And with all all that greatness from Cam it was clear as day we had substantial weaknesses. Our receivers were god awful, we led the NFL in dropped TD and yards lost do to drops. They were also second to last in YAC. We needed a major upgrade.

The line one was relying on max protection the entire year and even with max protection we were top 10 in sacks per attempt. And it was made up of cast offs and no names UDFA

Gettleman screwed up badly

But what about the successful 7-8-1 division championship year. Wasn't that year great? Did that not show you what a genius Gettleman is?

The Panthers should have built on the 2013 team. They run away with the division and have a good shot at up ending the Seahawks for the SB. Then the 2015 season leads to an even stronger team with Steve Smith and Jordan Gross in their final seasons since they are retiring together. The Panthers not only dominate, but they protect Cam with Gross and Veldheer warding off the Broncos pass rush. Meanwhile Steve Smith is so aware of the QB that he can consistently run come backs whenever Cam scrambles while beating down Talib. The Panthers go 19-0 and win very possibly their second SB championship. Then comes 2016 with every position accounted for while Landry replaces Smitty and Okung/Veldheer man the OT position.

If the Panthers let the plan play out and kept the interference of Gettleman away from the team, then this team would very well be on its way to a dynasty. They had it all in place. Instead, the Panthers are now wasting time with precious talent and are looking at a future that is very bleak with little to no quality talent surrounding what remains from the foundation put in place from 2011/2012.

Not sure where all of the DG haters were in the offseason or prior to the Denver game, but man they are in full force.

The OP has a great point and agree that what was on the roster needed a couple of tweeks vs. a reload.  Several things have not bounced DG and RR's way this year. We're a missed Gano FG from being 2-2 and if Shula didn't rear his head against Minny, possibly 3-1.  Players are being exposed and I think the coordinators are major players why we are 1-4.

That being said, DG should be held accountable for this offseason. Releasing Norman is looking bad. It was sketchy when it happened, but now, it's looking worse.  I'm not saying Norman would've contained these WRs that have burned us, but he definitely would've bolstered our D more than what we've shown. He held Julio intact....that's for sure. But who's to say that Norman would be doing well with the way our front 7 have played getting after the QB? DG should've also addressed SAF and DE in the draft or offseason. These 3 areas are what's burning us the most, and why he needs to be held accountable for that.

However, DG's previous years should balance out his shortcomings this offseason.

Who would you rather he had drafted in the first round?  I'll give you the two Henry's but I don't see anyone worth that pick, unless I'm missing something. Dodd? Spence? No thanks. Butler is good, will be a starter with time and is insurance for KK/Star.

2nd Round?  I like Bradberry and even if they kept the FT on Norman, I highly doubt Josh is here after '16, so Bradberry slots in nicely after a year under his belt and learning from a similar CB. I liked Darian Thompson SAF out of Boise St or maybe Carl Nassib.  Meh, Bradberry would still be a good selection. I like what I've seen from him this year.  Has never looked overwhelmed and outside of a few rookie mistakes in coverage/tackling, I think he's got a bright future in front of him.

Long story, long.... I think DG is getting some deserved heat, but I also think it's been a bit over the top. Yes, I think DGs ego or whatever that just cuts people (Smitty, Norman, Bene) is a bit annoying and needs to be reeled in. I don't mind the direct approach and northern attitude... I just think he needs to find a balance somewhere in between.

The issues with this team or systematic and start at the top. DG didn't acquire in FA or draft the tools needed for the coaching staff.  The coaching staff isn't adjusting in real time to put the right players in place and calling the necessary gameplan to win.  The players are underachieving and it starts with our MVP.  Yes, the OL has been awful a lot, but Cam is also holding onto the ball too long, still overshooting open WRs and frowning way more than smiling... which is not a good formula for him.  The DL is getting no pressure, the DBs are getting burned all over and we look like poo.  ST has been garbage too.  Gano misses the gamewinner in Denver, we $hit the bed a few times against Minnesota, etc.

The season is young... we're at the quarter pole. 1-3 isn't what anyone thought, but we can still slide into our bye week at .500.  Make a trade here in the next few days in the trenches and figure out if Griffin is the answer at SAF or not, and get someone that is.  Move Coleman back and I think we can still push for an NFCS title.  10-6 is still doable, IMO.  I don't think ATL is as good as their record. They lit us up, but I think they are fragile.  Tampa and NO do not scare me at all. Keep up with the Falcons, beat them in Charlotte, and I think we're looking good.
