Steve Smith and Norman both hurt in the same game.

You're not that important, dude :)

Which I'm sure is a shame to hear, because your ego has to be the only reason you come here at all.

It sure as heck isn't because you like the Panthers.

honestly watching you passionately admit that an internet forum is what defines your very existence is probably my very favorite moment on this board

Tell me Scot, what is it?

Trying to cover for a social hole? Seek the fulfillment of knowing people on the web because you've struggled to fill it in real life? Or is this a respite from a failed sporting career that inevitably turned downward when schools realized that you had no idea what you were looking at? Or do you type generic post after generic post with the misguided hope some passerby blogger or scout will come along and see your "greatness"..?

There must be some reason you believe that devoting the entirety of your day to an internet forum has any kind of value or real world merit

Smith's actually only had about half of one good season since joining the Ravens.

Ravens beat writers took note of how he faded after the first six games or so in year one. In year two, he was injured early and looks like the same scenario might play out in year three.

Meanwhile, we went to the Super Bowl without him.

Boy he sure showed us, huh?

How do u downvote?  I wish I could downvote you. I could prove you wrong but I dont feel like doing research and stuff.

The same leader who lead us to 12-4 cam?the notion that a player has to be released in order for your franchise qb to have control is ridiculous. Even more ridiculous is this being a big reason we've had the success we've had since he's left.

Enjoy denial.

Scot, the decision to cut Smitty was necessary but that doesn't take away from what he's done in Baltimore (similar to what D-Will has done in Pittsburgh and wouldn't have done here). He was really solid in his first year there, yes he faded a bit but came on strong in the playoffs. Last year he was a complete monster before having an unfortunate achilles injury and so far this year he's started off pretty damn good for a 37 year old wide receiver coming off a torn achilles. This injury doesn't seem very serious. I absolutely miss him but that doesn't mean that I want him back here. Both sides are better off where they are and Smitty will go down as one of the greatest players in NFL history.

I accepted cutting Steve at the time but man does that bother me in hindsight knowing it was just the beginning of Dave cutting any player who obstructed his chief desire to be seen as "the man in charge"

especially seeing how dominant Steve has continued to be

especially seeing how revered he's become

especially knowing he could have made a difference in the super bowl

especially seeing him regarded as a sure fire Hall of Famer who should have been a Panther lifer.

but hey at least Dave got to tell him who the boss is around here.

For the umpteenth time, Smitty fully planned on retiring after the 2014 season on his own terms. Getting cut from Carolina put a new chip on his shoulder. Like Deangelo, it took getting cut to find that motivation.

"The drama surrounding Steve Smith'sdeparture from Carolina -- and subsequent signing with Baltimore -- left many Panthersfrustrated. But it left Smith, who now says he was planning to retire after 2014, renewed.

The new Ravens wide receiver told Don Banks of Sports Illustrated he "was going to retire" after 2014 ... until the Panthers dumped him."

1. Sure would've liked to have had him in 2014.

2. its been discussed here numerous times, and nobody believes he was actually going to retire. He's now here, playing, two years later, possibly more.

Won't really disagree with 2014, but impossible to say that he'd still be around. Sure didn't sound like it.

Oh so laughably off base :)

Suffice to say my life is pretty happy at the moment. Definitely happy enough that an Internet troll isnt gonna put a dent in it (try as they pathetically might).

Now on the other hand, if I spent all my time coming on a message board trying to make other people miserable about the team they cheer for, that would be a pretty good sign that I didn't have much of a life.

Know anybody like that?

I can think of one or two people...

You can prove that Baltimore beat writers didn't talk about him fading and we didn't go to the Super Bowl without him?

Be my guest.

As KSpan has pointed out, he was going to retire after 2014 anyway and his last year here wasn't that special.

I'd love to have seen Smith's exit be better. I could say the same of Jake Delomme, Jon Beason, Wesley Walls, probably Thomas Davis soon and various others. But I learned a long time ago that happy endings in the NFL are the exception, not the rule.

Yeah, it sucks sometimes, but that's the real world.

i took this post off the ravens subreddit and replaced "ravens" and "trestman" with "panthers" and "shula"

Quote

Although our offense was fuging HORRENDOUS other than the first drive, we have to put a huge blame on the special teams unit. But seriously, when does the FO realize we need to let go of Shula? I've been content and giving him the benefit of the doubt for way too long now, I've had it. People will say continuity is key, but continuity of an incompetent OC is anything but beneficial. I love the Panthers but this is not a playoff contending team at the moment
