For the Panthers now, and Cam's future, Shula has to go

Which is a reason why I don't think it would happen.

Gettleman and Rivera have a good working relationship. I doubt Gettleman wants to jeopardize it.

Being an old navy guy, I have to give DG this advice:

Its bad to have a good, close relationship with a sinking ship.  You may have loved her before, but don't let her take you down with her.

Exactly. Even on offense the strategy is to move the ball slowly and control clock to keep the defense off the field. Our passing game moves the ball to quickly so we go back to the run game to slow the pace which leads to stalled runs and then we are forced to punt. The philosophy is trash and holds the team back. It' like we try so hard not be aggressive and shoot ourselves in the foot.

I post this in many threads:

The modern NFL is intentionally and with purpose biased to the passing game.  To CHOOSE to prioritize the rush offense over the pass offense is to choose to disadvantage yourself under the present rules.

I don't dislike Rivera. I don't see how you can. He might be the nicest guy that's ever coached the Panthers.

But I confess there is a part of me that wants to see Gettleman run a coaching search, especially if it means getting the first offensive-minded coach this team has ever had.

The approach has worked. No doubt about that.

But it's a valid question to ask how long you can keep that going.

Despite the Superman label, Newton isn't invincible. If he wants to have longevity in the league, he's going to have to change his style.

And if the coaches aren't trying to get him to do that, then who will?

Organization is going to have to invest in the  hogmollies and skill players to take on Cams load.

RB: Fourentte\ Freeman\ Chubb

TE: Howard \ Sprinkle

WR: Fred Ross \ AL corp

etc etc

Ron has said consistantly over the past few years they try and limit his contact, runs and otherwise. I don't believe that's on the coaching staff.

The issue is pressure, with the same offensive line yes it's easy to say the gap protection design is bad, and frankly yes it is. However how much of that has to do how long cam is holding the ball, can our receivers not create separation? Is it bad reads?

There is only one certain thing I will agree with the sky is falling crowd, this team is failing, the coaches, the fans and the players. I don't believe we're out though just yet. Football is a team sport, every cog in this wheel needs to do a better job.

I get the joke you're making but the Browns cannot do that.

They're intentionally tanking right now for draft picks. If they fired hue in the middle of this then the NFL would have to step in and force a sale.

Would you be surprised?

Of course they do.

Up until this year, with the intentional head shots, the primary beating Cam has been taking has been in the run game.

Cam flippin' IS our run game.

And you say you "don't believe that's on the coaching staff"?!?!?!?!

Well then who the hell is it on?  Is Jerry Richardson calling those running plays from the owners box?

I like a lot about Ron but there are some traits of his that make me want to jab my eyes out with a toothbrush shiv

such as the fact that he is so remedial at clock management to this very day. He still wastes timeouts, we probably lead the league in delay of game penalties, etc. He hasn't improved one bit in that field since 2011

The one flaw in the argument--er, "missing piece," we'll say--is we don't know how many of those hits were solely Cam's fault.  Much like the DA interception to win the game last night, sure it was a bad play call, but then again Shula isn't the one who threw the interception.  I get it, the play was there to be made b/c of the play call itself and coaches need to put their players in the best position possible blah blah . . . I get it, I do.  But at the end of the day, when those players, here Cam, don't listen, then there isn't much that can be done to improve the player-coach relationship.  That bit of information would provide more insight, but generally, I agree--Shula has reached Fox status.
