  1. 1. Coach vs GM

Recommended Posts

I feel like Dave could learn a lot by watching this video. Take the lessons in this video and apply it to the cheap ass dollar store free agents he's always shopping for. Sure, you might occasionally find one that works out, but to quote my man...

"When you come with that little bitty ass cash, we're gonna give you what you pay for. You come with $1000, trust and believe you gonna have a $1000 car. Something is NOT gonna work right! Trust and believe that!"

Dave thinks he can get away with filling key positions year after year with the NFL equivalent of $1000 cars.

But seriously, take five minutes and watch that video. You'll laugh your ass off and it'll cheer you up.

If Gettleman is gone who is to say the new GM even wants RR around?  And I assume the only way Gettlman is gone is if the Panthers have sucked bad this year and next, so why would any of us want Ron around after all that anyway?

Because Ron is a good coach and the failure of the season was due to D.G. , I mean who you gonna hire lovie smith, greg roman, marvin lewis hahahaha

First, Peanut had an ACL, preventing him from a possible 2nd year with the Panthers.

Second, Norman wanted more money than he's worth, so Gettleman let him walk, which still was the best decision.

Third, Bene, whom was being counted on to help achor the secondary, hadn't even recovered well enough to play slot fot us. Pretty sad.  While his cut was surprising, I don't fault the decision.

4th, injuries are a bitch.  And injuries has taken it's toll on the secondary.

None of these are the fault of the GM, nor the coach.

I do blame the coaching staff, namely Rivera, for the undisciplined play on both sides of the ball.

Neither one should be fired.

BTW, you can't get rid of the GM, and retain the HC. It happened when Hurney was fired, but it won't happen again.

I don't know how you can't blame the GM. He put this secondary together. It was his decision not to franchise Norman - an obvious move any other competent GM would have made to give us time to prepare for him leaving.

Then Gettlemagic has to go out and basically waste our 2015 draft. Taking 3 corners higher than he needed to ... losing picks in the process. There is a reason smart organizations don't trade up. And for two straight drafts Dave has moved up for players who weren't going anywhere.

Look at the players failing us. All Gettleman pick ups - Ealy, Boston, Worley, Sanchez, Remmers,

One thing Hurney did right was add all the true impact players on the team - Cam, Luke, Oslen, TD, Steward, Kalil even Norman ... Thanks Dave

I don't think Ron is a great coach (Sean Mcdermott is the mastermind of the D in my opinion) but I have never seen a great defense with no pass rush and mediocre cover personnel.

This is what Gettlemagic gets you.

Remmers sucked in the SB. You did nothing to upgrade. Jets got Ryan Clady for a 5th. Russell Okung was available.

You lose Norman and you draft three rookie corners. Casey Hayward signed a 3y/15m contract with SD; 3 ints so far.

Tre Boston was your day 1 starter. Why the fug not sign Michael Griffin in the beginning so he could've learn the defense sooner.

Dwight Freeney was damn available. You let him walk to Atlanta. Now, Cam laying on his ass.

It ain't hard to build a good team. It's not madden, but it's also not rocket science. You get what you pay for.

Jets and Chargers are dead last in their divisions

Regarding some of the posts earlier, if the team is playing so horribly due to the whole protesting issue then I firmly believe the fault falls onto the coaches. I mean come on, Jerry Jones has pretty come straight out and said that he disapproves of the protesting and of anybody that does it and yet Dallas is winning games. His coaches are managing the players in a way that it doesn't affect the overall team chemistry. It falls upon the coaches to work with the players on issues on the field, and off in this case. The coaches are responsible for taking care of locker room issues as they are the ones who are closest to the players and hear about that types of things.

I think the lose of veterans on defense has been a huge cause to the dysfunction of the team. I think the lose of Norman was fine, and support Getleman's decision, however we really should have brought in a couple of vets to take the place of Harper (even though he wasn't the best at his position his knowledge was a HUGE help), Allen, and Tillman (I really miss the peanut punch and really wish he could come in as a coach for us). It's kind of why if we don't start getting it together this season, we draft maybe a pass rusher or some guys for the offense and pick up some FA vets to help the young secondary learn from. I'm actually looking at the Vikings for where we could get some help at tackle since Kalil's brother Matt, Jake Long, and Andre Smith are all set to be FA's so far. They will more than likely be re-signed but worth a look if not.

I'm surprised Sean McDermott hasn't been mentioned yet. He's the defensive coordinator, but it seems like we all assume Ron is in charge of that. When the offense sucks, we blame Shula. When the defense sucks, we blame Ron and Gettleman. Maybe Sean deserves some blame too, running a Cover 2 zone system when we can't even cover one guy.

Yeah. McDermott gets the benefit of doubt because of the personnel holes on defense but our fascination with zone coverage and playing over the top of receivers all game has been going on for longer.

aceboogie's theorem: take players that aren't helping their team win and put them on another team that's not winning to create wins

My theory is to pay good players. Pretty basic. Instead of let good players go and try to replace them on the cheap. But hey you get what you pay for

Best option for Norman was the tag.  Which Dave did and had planned on....then egos got in the way.

also, if your worst DB injury is turf toe to a rookie CB then I don't buy claiming injuries as a reason for garbage

it is the GM's fault that he didn't tag Norman, reached and overly focused on need in the draft and did little to aid his DB situation or pass rush this offseason post Norman debacle.  This train wreck is no surprise.

and you also have a GM starting an odd trend of spending first round picks on guys who arent intended to be starters.  That will start to take its toll on a team that "builds" through the draft.

    • This is spot on, with the first 5 years of a QBs contract being so pivotal, as it should, unless you have Pat Mahomes or the reincarnation of Tom Brady, stats shows once the qb gets paid, the teams Super Bowl chances shrink significantly  what we did to get Bryce was idiotic to say the least, not because of the player(not a Bryce endorsement) but because there’s a long history of proof, making big swings at qb, are usually big misses  find the identify, build around that, and go from there. Unfortunately we don’t have one, and neither the defense nor offense side of the ball are more than good at best
    • Seems like a loaded EDGE class. though I think we don't spend a premium pick there with Scourton/Princely showing production and potential.  Concepcion at 19 is intriguing and seen ARSB comps with his shiftiness, high IQ and YAC ability. He and TMac would be a nasty 1-2 combo at stretching a defense. Brenan Thompson could be that day 2 speedy/slot guy that could boost his draft stock in Mobile.  Sam Hecht could be a later selection for C depending on how we are planning to attack that position in FA and our own previous guys. Shelton from PSU is an interesting developmental tackle that if he can get locked into an NFL strength program and rock up, could be good down the road. Speaking of PSU, Dani Dennis Sutton was a guy last year I was big on and was bummed he headed back to Happy Valley. I think he can be a helluva NFL player, and if he can show improvement in his pass rush moves, I wouldn't be mad at him in a trade-back situation.
