Is it time for Daryl Williams?

I'm not against it but look at the quality of competition he was going against... Not the best. He wasn't lined up against Vonn Miller or Everson Griffen.

It seems like he has to settle down into his role in games. He'll get a penalty or give up a sack/make a mistake early, but then he seems to adjust and do better from then on.  I'm cautiously optimistic.

Beasley went off for 3.5 sacks, a week after Daryl held him sackless. Does it really matter who he has faced? All that should matter is that Cam is safe from front side rushers. And, he and Trai seem to be playing well together as well. I call that a win.

I don't think he has more than 1 penalty called against him, and if he has a sack against him, it was on one where he was late helping Dickson. So no, he is not making mistakes early, or late, for that matter. We don't have to qualify his successes, isn't  it enough that he is having success?

I mean, let's give the kid the credit he deserves. It will not hurt, I promise.

Yes it's time for Williams. May be time for Hawkins too.

Arizona loves to blitz. I am not sure who I want over there in that game. I would  love if Hawkins were to win the job, and then help him out with chips, and double teams. Thus putting Remmers back to depth. IMO, that would be best. But only if Hawkins can take the job. Would Ron be willing to give it a shot?

Keeping Remmers over there gives us some experience. But truthfully, not much more. We still have to protect him with chips and such. So is there really that big of a deal which one starts? Unless Hawkins doesn't practice well, so the team does not trust him yet. Although, he has seen a few snaps, I haven't watched him, so I just don't know.

I know when Oher gets replaced, he is going to be a pretty expensive back up. But I am willing to live with that if we can upgrade him. He has played ok, and he is a leader on that line. But if we can upgrade over him. We have to do it.

OK, rant over.

I am hoping you are right

Now I ain't no fancy evaluatee or nuttin. But I tellya what. If he continues to play as well as he has started out playing. People will have to give him his do. I mean it is scary how he looks. He and Trai slide rushers off on each other. He is using his hands really well, so rushers are not getting into him. He never stops on running plays, and is always looking for someone to hit.

He just looks like he belongs. 3 games into his second year, for a 4th rounder to win a RT job, that isn't too bad. Could have been quicker, but then again, it could have taken longer, or not happen at all.

All I know is that as of this moment. Williams actually looks like the guy we were hoping for when we drafted him.

He fits perfectly for this offense identity ,especially the way defense is sucking balls. His  pass protection is going to get better as season progresses as he learns how to dissect films and counter different moves by veteran pass rushers.  It's kind of funny that ppl are willing to let  the secondary learn through fire but when it comes to Williams it's bench time.

Williams looked like he didn't have a clue in his first start, which is pretty much what any fourth round pick making his first start in the NFL is probably going to look like.

Since then, I've seen him make progress, which is also what a guy who gets more reps is probably (hopefully) going to do.

Is he ready to start full time?  I'm iffy, but I wouldn't scream if it happened. I've long been of the belief that Remmers is better suited to be a utility backup than a full time starter but we haven't had a better starter available.  If Williams can get to that point, good.

Now, go in with a realistic understanding that his weaknesses aren't the same as the ones Remmers has, but he'll have em.  Same as the young DBs, he's going to make the kind of mistakes a young player makes and if you want to start him, you have to accept that.

    • We won 5 with the worst defense in the history of defenses.  I think free agency and our draft puts us over 6.5.
    • Leaning towards just ordering this tonight, but now I have no idea on size. Has anyone bought a bunch of jerseys in the last few years and can convey how the Game vs Limited vs Reebok versions all fit? These are both Mediums... The white one here is a Reebok one from 2010, and was when they had the "+2 length" on the tag and it was the version with the stitched numbers instead of iron on... the blue one is from 2022 and is the F.U.S.E Limited version also with stitched stuff, not the "game jersey" with the ironed on numbers/letters that they have the T-Mac jerseys in. The old one fits me fine, the blue one was always a tad snug on me, particularly in the shoulders I'm leaning going with a Large based on the CMC, but for all I know, that is made with a tighter cut due to the higher "limited" level and the "game" ones they have for T-Mac are cut more like a T-Shirt and thus will fit more like the old white one I have here, not sure. (and yes, I already tried going to a sporting goods store here to hopefully try on a Lions jersey to see, but they don't have any right now)
    • I think there's a ton of potential in that WR room. But they really are unproven right now. Hopefully they live up to the hype.
