So is this the greatest song in country music history or what?

Gotta admit, though I listen to a lot of poo, country is not my forte.  I remember when this song came out though.  It was fuging huge.  And me at that point not being a country music fan took notice.  At that time this came out I was more into Megadeth, Slayer, Suicidal Tendancies, etc.  I only heard this song through a friend of mine and it hooked me instantly.  Probably because it's so easy to relate to.  Since then I've listened to a lot of country.  Not enough that I would call myself a country music fan but enough to say that I knew something about country.  Since that time I've not heard a country song that has hooked me like this one.  But that could be because I just haven't heard that song before....I don't know.

While I love the 90s era country by the likes of Garth, George and Tracy, this is nowhere close to the best country song ever.  This isn't even Garth's best song.  See:  The Red Strokes or Lonesome Dove.  For my money, Keith Whitley was top notch.  He had it all.

I'm not even close to a country fan but i have an acquired taste.

I like 70s and 80s country but not 90s. Like a handful of 50s and 60s.

New stuff i dig The Wailing Jennys and Alison Krause and my man Darius Rucker.  My Rucker and Krause channels on Pandora has opened my ears to some other artists that are good.
