Can Shaq play some MLB?

If Klein has been such a legit starter in waiting.....why didn't we just give him that opportunity earlier instead of using a first round pick on Shaq? that's just what normal teams do if they got a depth guy who is starting caliber. it just reinforces the fact that shaq wasn't a huge need to me. the whole playing the nickel reasoning just seems like hot air. Shaq is here now and hope he ends up a prowler but if Klein is this good he could have took that spot.

The real issue you are missing is...what for it...they play different positions. Klein would have trouble outside, because he is a MLB. He probably has never played outside. Why put him somewhere he has never played?

There is a yuge difference between ILB, and OLB. Just ask Mathews for GB. Pro Bowl OLB. Mediocre ILB.

Hope that helps.

Umm...no it doesn't help. Klein has played OLB for us. Go check his rookie year and the next year. Thats where he started at, if anything he has just been asked to learn all the positions because he is versatile. but if they thought he was starting caliber he should have got a shot to lock that position down all I'm saying

Luke started at OLB. Playing the position does not mean it is where you should be playing.

Klein can play all 3 LB positions. But if he gets a new deal with another team, as is expected. It will probably be at MLB. That is the position he plays the best. It is where his value lies.

Versatility is great. It helps marginal players stay in the league. But you want your starters playing their best positions. And Klein is a MLB, who can play OLB. You just have to be willing to live with his production dropping off if you play him anywhere but MLB.

Beason had one if his best seasons at OLB and made the pro bowl. I've seen Briggs play MLB when Urlacher was hurt

Your trying to make it look like the from OLB to MLB is unheard of.

Carolina's tradition of excellence at MLB continues, even with AJ in the position. He's likely one of the 10 best in the position in the league, and we've been lucky enough to keep him here.

Let Shaq get back to being Shaq, AJ has it covered well. If it weren't for Luke, AJ as our starting MLB over the past few years would have been pretty amazing, too. Luke is just legendary, and that's a tough shadow to get out from under.

Bro, your thread is awful and your premises are not based in reality.

Positional differences are real and just because one player can move around does not equate to all players.

Beason was awful at OLB, btw.

Going from middle to outside is a big difference and going from outside to middle is just as big. I completely agree with. Beason was poo on outside and for a couple games during jerks rookie year he play outside...and he wasn't near as good.

Beason poo at OLB LMAO

He was drafted as a OLB and could made the all-pro team if it wasn't for the 3-4 pass rushers.

Your getting him confused with Luke who was horrible at OLB.

Either way when Klein gets picked on tommorow i'm gonna come back to tell you.

    • ^I want that, but Rodriguez over KC. Don't hate KC as much at that spot, but rather take a WR with the pick we gain in that trade than in the 1st.
    • I think there is good points in this thread to what the team needs to do. 1) Ball isn't really the issue but, he needs reigned in.  Coach and he need to realize when things aren't falling from the three and learn to play other facets of the game.  He's an amazing talent and when he's on, he's on.  But he can also shoot you out of a game.  We're lucky Miami went that way but that is too many missed threes.  He still needs to bulk up if he can, but he needs to drive more.  He's pretty good at finishing usually and hopefully the fouls come (probably not though).   2) The whole team needs to be more physical.  As others have stated, we need more bulk in our bigs.  Diabate is a hurricane of energy but cannot go against the larger centers.  I love him on the team but he should be more of a match up type guy or energy off the bench.  I think he'd be insane off the bench.  However I think the biggest issue with Diabate and Kaulk is the lack of offensive game.  The lack of a jump shot or anything.  Teams figured out to just leave them on the screen and crash lanes.  There has to be some sort of threat.  We need a 4 and a 5 that can do those things and stretch out the court. 3) Bridges.  He's just undersized.  However, I feel he really threw his all into it the last few weeks when others were gassed.  He was ok not being a focal point.  I'd like to have him off the bench as well but I assume he'd be traded to make things work.  4) Miller.  Dude can light it up when on, but disappears for quarters at a time.  Also he needs to work on ball handling and passing.  He's a turnover machine at bad times.  Also hopefully over the injury so he can bulk up too.   5) Kon. Just a rookie.  Long season and back injury.  I have no doubt he'll be back stronger and focused.  Needs to work on defense and physicality like the whole team but yes, a rookie he'll get there. 6) Coby.  Has to be resigned, no question.  The bench lineup is rough without him running the point.  Team has big potential and the front office seems sharp.  They seen the hive and how crazy it got and how much the city wants this.
