Why the hell did we draft Shaq?

Really? So saving Cap is not wise?

Giants had quite a hefty bit of Cap last season, along with others, and they used it when the time was right.

Panthers had to go from bare nothing to get the cap we have now.

Understand we never really had much cap to begin with. Why would Dave save money when considering the future?

Because he's waiting to shop at Tiffany's. Sign our guys first, use the surplus to fix other positions, then draft.

Don't be surprised to see Dave go for some decent players soon.

But that's the issue, we aren't signing our guys. Giants weren't just in the super bowl. We took steps back this offseason and there's no excuse for it.

Lol. Same narrative. "oh noes we didn't sign back Norman, Smitty, DeLo the Dicko, etc."

Cam, Luke, Olsen, Thomas Davis, Ryan Kalil, and many others have something to say about that.

Signing Short shouldn't be hard, if not, we got insurance with Butler. Star will probably get a deal done instead due to his importance if worst comes to worst.

Signing CJ for a rotational role won't be too bad. Keeping Addison should be fine as well.

If Oher truly retires, we got a lot of cap to work with, and even if he doesn't, we still have around 40m+.

We'll get our guys signed, then sign those that'll help the team. We'll be competitive and deadly as soon as next year.

Again all Hurney guys you just used your argument to support Gettleman.

Saving cap when you have arguably the two players to get you to the promise land is not wise, honestly I don't mind being in cap hell
With Luke and Cam signed long term, a couple Super Bowl rings outweighs us sucking once they retire. It's better then wasting there primes away with season like this one and 2014.

This isn't Madden. Changing defensive philosophy is not just lining up the players in a different position. It would require almost new upfront personnel and a new head coach as Rivera is not a 3-4 guy

4-3 is the best scheme espcially with the type of core players we have. Defense should be far better next year with help of  a DE and expereince in the secondary, the LBs will be able to "roam" around more & create Turnovers.

Ron in San Diego ran a 3-4 and had a top 10 defense, it can be done. And idk if you noticed but plenty of teams have made the change recently. Right now Star can play NT, we need 2 new DEs anyway. Luke head injuries are no joke and TD are getting older, KK may be let go. It's easier to build up a 3-4 in today's draft than a 4-3, which is easier to build on through free agency which for some reason seems to be a problem around here. 3-4 gives you more flexibility especially when it comes to blitzing which McDermott loves to do at heart. In today's NFL you need to be able to rush the passer

The guys you mentioned are the core pieces they are supposed to get signed, duh. Its the pieces around them makes a team elite.

THE James Anderson?

Whoops...wrong thread kinda.

basically what he is, except Anderson had 94 starts for the Panthers. The most in franchise history, for an LB

Anderson had 53 starts as a Panther. TD has 126. Luke has 71.  Beason had 71, Morgan had 59.

I said after we drafted him we should have kept him at safety and I stand by that. At least he would be getting PLAYING TIME.

I have this same sentiment. But IIRC, Shaq stated he didn't want to play safety. You're in the NFL kid, you take what is given to you.

Who knows, he might be the second coming of TD. There was a lot of TD bashing back then too. But at least at SS we kill two birds with one stone. Shaq sees the field and Coleman is back at FS.
