NFL already responding to Newton hit (like always)

leaking junk to Ed Werder (we have seen this all before)

#NFL office source on Newton non-call:  lost QB protection as runner, slide didn't occur before contact imminent, contact no obv. forcible

same old song and dance.  THIS is why players continue to take shots....because the league protects refs and encourages dirty play by players because NOTHING is done.

NFL ONLY interprets that play, in that manner....for Newton.  But let's make another thread praising Carolina's FO and coaching staff for handling it the right way and quietly going through the league office.

I was actually pleased with KK hitting Kirk while he was still in bounds and drawing a flag for roughing, since Kirk was also running blah blah blah. It highlighted the disparity of Cam's non-calls on a national stage.

This song and dance is horrid.

Anyone have a gif? I was coming home from work and I didn't get to see it. I know it's probably a hit that should have been called though, without seeing it. I mean, it's Cam. Refs hate Cam.

But seriously, when does a QB become a runner thus losing his protection? I clearly saw Cousins running, thus losing his protection, yet when he was pushed/shoved out of bounds while he was still IN bounds, short gets called for it? I mean this is sooo complex man. How do these NFL refs define and decide what is a runner and what isn't a runner and if they have lost or have their protection still?

Lol "not a sliding motion"

What the actual fug. He wasn't a runner, he was sliding and 5 inches from the ground at that point. They're literally just brewing up a poostorm to come right at them about this.

Rule says even with a late slide and if a defender can't avoid....that head contact still makes it illegal and a flag should get thrown

but they keep dancing and singing and selling bullpoo. Because no one outside Newton will make a stand and Newton will be crucified for it

Current NFL mindset:

NFL leaks a little to Werder.  Gauges the temp.  Sees no real outrage.  Yeah, looks like we can keep up this year long charade we have dug our heels into.  Let's put the official response out now.  Guess we can prepare for that Carolina handwritten note that is always in such lovely penmanship to show up so that we can it toss in the garbage.

NFL probably doubles down and puts this crew in the postseason and talks about how their grading put them in the postseason games.

You guys will have to come to terms with this.  It's not going to change no matter what kind of fit Ron and the front office throws.   It's going to be up to the team to stop it, or at least deter it some by retaliation.  Yes we will get the flags on us but so what.  Set the tone as soon as Cam takes a hit like that by knocking the offending player the fug out.   Hell if I were Ron I would tell the opposing coach that he can expect it if his guys take shots at my QB during the game.  Hell I would go across the field and get in the motherfugers face.  I would get ejected and fined but at this point who cares.  The NFL doesn't so if they want WWE style I would be happy to oblige.

    • Ehhhh except a lot of it was his refusal in college not to play hero ball.....  The two things he greatly improved at the NFL level were his accuracy on the run and learning he didn't have to take the deep shot every play.   That said when taking a massive boom or bust athlete at QB the most important thing is their work ethic/coachability/desire to improve

    • The new (released today) FOX ONE app will allow you access to watch your Local FOX Station - similar to how the Paramount Plus app allows you access to watch your local CBS station It'll cost you $20/month for the privilege, but if you're having trouble accessing the over-the-air antenna for FOX, this could be an option to consider the new ESPN app will give you access to ESPN content, but not to the local ABC affiliate. A reminder: if you currently get ESPN via some TV provider (cable, satellite, youtube, etc) then you should be able to use the new ESPN app via your provider login, no additional payment required
