Unnecessary Roughness 101

Both.  The refs suck.

But they strategically go overboard with the rules as a means to actually be able to defend themselves when they screw up

The rules seem to be outlined pretty clearly. It's the explanations they give in justification for the calls that have me scratching my head. If you want a good laugh go look at how they explained away the hit on Newton last Sunday. Rule clearly states that regardless of running/sliding/etc. the player cannot be struck to the head or neck area. But they waved it off because the hit didn't look abusive enough.

i saw this last night all over social media and I believe every football analyst were losing their mind on twitter last night all in favor of Cam.  Big tall athletic QB who can run both slide one hit in the head and one with a hand to the shoulder to try and prevent impact and the White QB gets the call... nah its not a race thing.

#FUGtheNFL

Could be a race thing.  But I suspect its more a personality thing.  Cam is a little demonstrative and flamboyant and that's a turnoff to many.

We need to find a way to shame these refs.  Call them out personally.  Put their name in the caption when they call something stupid or don't call anything when they obviously should.  "Mark Fuhrman" their ass to see If there is a legitimate possibility of racial bias.

Many of the rules make a point to outline how there is always a subjective component to it.  Therefore it makes too many of the rules gray and not actually black and white.

That is why after all these bogus calls Dean Blandino will defend them because he goes right to the subjective element

This year, I have watched less football than I ever have in my 13 years of watching tbh Between the bullsh*t rules that don't apply to everybody, the BLATANT disrespect towards my favorite QB on my favorite team, no celebration anymore, and loads of bullsh*t commercials, it's just unwatchable now. I literally have no interest in the NFL anymore besides the Panthers, and even that is getting hard to watch. It's just so watered down and filled with piss poor quality and reality show drama from media.

I really believe this is one of the factors that is causing people to lose interest in the NFL.  What is a catch?  What is a penalty?  When is it a fumble vs an incompletion?   The rules are so inconsistent from one play to the next.

One thing is consistent. Cam never gets the calls.

i hope this gets talked about nationally.

It should...play that clip and Cam's slide back to back.  There is no defense.

Example of subjectivity in the rules regarding hitting the QB?

Because all I've seen so far is them making up explanations that are inconsistent with the rules as they go along.

I asked myself if Wilson gets the call. Absolutely.
Taylor? Yeah probably.
Winston? We haven't seen anything to prove otherwise.

All of it comes down to Cam being a polarizing personality. People either love or loathe the guy and no matter the amount of good he does for the community it will never be enough for some people because their mind is already made up about him. Maybe it's a race thing for some, but you aren't going to convince me that the NFL as an organization is "out to get Cam" because he is a black QB.

The refs see Cam as an uppity person. A lot of people claim that racism isn't involved because other black QB's like Russell Wilson get calls, but he gets calls because he's fake and robotic and acts the way the NFL thinks black QB's should act. Plus, Cam not getting calls is payback for calling out Ed Hochuli. Ever since that day, the NFL has been out to get him. It's so obvious.

he actually got 2 calls but I don't want to blow people's minds. He got tackled right after making a throw.  You know, like 50% of Cam's standard plays.

Actually, he got hit while making the throw. The ball was just leaving his hand. But I think it has to do more with them wanting the Eagles to win than who was QB.

Gonna make alot of people mad with this. But here goes.

Can't help but wonder to myself if even half of the people here talking about Cam's race being a factor and crapping on the league for what appears to many as race-related officiating would give the same effort to defending and calling out such things to another black man...that...perhaps...isn't on your favorite team?

Such treatment happens to people of color every day. Most don't care. Most overlook it because it doesn't affect them personally. Yet here....so many will get so upset and wear the cape of equality and fairness....because this particular black man is on OUR team?

The problem is there's a constant need for the powers that be to make sure Cam knows his place. Take it how you want, but it is what it is. Russell gets the call but what people fail to understand is Russell is exactly what they want the black quarterback to be. Cam is big, strong, cocky, a freak athlete and marches to the beat of his own drum. He doesn't play like other quarterbacks, he doesn't dress like them, he doesn't talk like them, he doesn't act like them. The NFL doesn't want him as the face of their league. He wasn't supposed to be MVP, he was supposed to be a bust according to some. Then he called Ed Hocchuli out and that was the icing on the cake.
