Carl Cheffers will ref Panthers-Bucs. Something interesting: Ed Hochuli hasn’t been assigned a CAR game since “you’re too young” charge.

But there's nothing personal, right?

Though I acknowledge the possibility, I'm not as big on the "Cam doesn't get calls due to racism" theory as I am on the notion that referees just plain don't like him.  And a lot of that could very easily stem from his pointed criticism of one of their own high profile brethren.

Mind you, the NFL not assigning Hochuli to the Panthers would seem to be a sign they know there are some bad feelings. And if they do indeed know that there are bad feelings, you'd think they'd emphasize to refs to get the calls right and not let their emotions come into play.  But that doesn't appear to be occurring, does it?

So why doesn't the players union do something?  Good question.  Some have theorized it's because they also represent the players that are hitting Cam in the head, but part of me can't help but wonder if they maybe just don't want to start anything with their cousins in the referees' union.  Regardless of the reason, the silence on their part is deafening.

Bottom Line: I don't think it's an accident that Hochuli hasn't reffed a Panther game since that incident.

The question is why, and what's the larger meaning?

The problem with refs is that they don't like to be told they're wrong. They are capable of being arrogant and ignorant, as we've seen with how Cam has been treated.

Doesn't matter if you don't like him. Doesn't matter if he dabs all over the field. You have to call the game fairly.

The refs aren't held accountable to the same standard the players are because they have the shield backing them. And I'm sorry but repremanding a ref after the season is completely worthless when they are cheating teams(intentional or not)out of the game week to week in the moment. The players and coaches work way to hard at this to simply tow the line. I support every player who calls out the refs and it should be done more often.

How they treat Cam needs to be seriously looked at because God forbid he gets seriously hurt on a no call or something of that nature then the entire media and public will crash down on the league. And with all the attention on concussions now it will be a PR nightmare for them.

If I was Cam, I'd retire and say it's due to NFL failure to protect players. That would be an ultimate "fug you" Dave Chapelle style.  An absolute nightmare for NFL and Goodell.

The NFL would probably love that, and the Panthers slip right back to irrelevance on a national scale. No one would miss Cam outside of this fan base, and our fan base is split as well. Cam retiring gives Roger an easy out.

I'm not so sure they'd love it given all the talk there's been about head injuries and their failure to protect players.

Are you kidding me? People would just say he's a baby. People don't take his side.
