Turner sheds light on Oher's future

Quote

Panthers offensive lineman Trai Turner said Oher plans to play in 2017 after missing the final 13 games this season. A source close to Oher confirmed Thursday that Oher expects to return next season.

The Panthers have said little about Oher’s condition or future outlook since he entered the concussion protocol Sept. 30. When the team placed Oher on injured reserve two months later, coach Ron Rivera says there wasn’t enough time left in the season to work Oher back into shape.

Glad that Oher seems to be healthy, and hope he really thought about this decision. I'm sure he loves the game of football, and really doesn't want an injury to end his career - but I really hope it'll be a decision that won't be life-altering in a bad way.

Only move I see happening is finding depth at LT - that is if Oher is back to playing shape/healthy. Maybe go for Matt Kalil, but I don't think our o-line is in as bad of shape as many make it out to be. Remmers can backup Daryl, and a FA can backup Oher.

We may get an OT as high as the 3rd round compensatory pick we have, but no higher. We'll probably look at measurables and see if there's one we can develop.

For those of you wondering "bah why not a 1st" compare this year's crop with last year's crop of OTs.

Cam Robinson is a low 2nd rounder to 3rd rounder at best if he went for last year's draft. There is no OT worth a high pick or one that'll make an immediate impact, whether you like it or not.

I think we need to invest our first rounder in a tackle. If big hog mollies are the thing then here is a chance to get our franchise left tackle for the next decade. If nothing else start him on the right side like we did Gross and move him when he is ready.

I don't see any first rounder being our future. This year's top prospect (Cam Robinson - mediocre at pass blocking; awful at run blocking) would be a low second rounder during last year's draft - anything but a sure thing.

I can see us looking at a guy with potential (physically and mentally) and grabbing him as soon as our compensatory pick, but otherwise don't think there's much worth to draft one.

    • He's a hard player to rank, cause he is a young NT. I do see his abilities to branch out among the DL. That's the only way for him to land in the 1st, some team has to believe he's got the stuff to play DE or T3.... I just don't see using 19 on him, I feel there should be around 7 players just ranked higher than him for the Panthers team.  ___________________________________________________________________   Now you are a roster nut like me. Im tossing this into fire, I think a good move is to trade UP, yes rare. Just the roster #s tell me 5 rookies and no more than 2 starters will make the team. I feel 5 is magic number.    QB- 2  BY, Pickett RB- 3   Chubba, Brooks(pls), etienne TE- 4   Sanders, Temble, Evans, Draft pick/major/franks/UDFA OL- 10   Walker, Lewis, Fortner, Hunt, Motown, Zavailla, Samac, Stone, Draft pick, Draft pick/Charles/carter WR-  6   Tmac, XL, Coker, Metch, Horn, Tremay   offense=  25 with 3 draft picks   DL-  6   Brown, Brown, Wharton, Ray, Cam, Hunter/draft pick Ed-   5  Phillips, Nic, Prince, Jones, ST/incoom/hampton ILB-   5  Lloyd, Wallace, Bam, Claud, draft pick CB-    5 Horn, Jackson, Thor, Evans, draft pick/CSN/UDFA SS-  4  Scott, More, Ramsom, Sim   Defense = 25 with 3 picks   ST = known 3+o+d = 53 roster   SO I see only room for 5-6 with factoring in UDFA pool. That tells me to trade up! Bonus the 1st+3rd gets in front of TB yucs. Then use one of the 5ths+2nd to draft another target. That's your two starters and use the 4th, 5th and 6th for the development OTs and what ever the best player are at the pick/DB. The last couple years they have added 2-3 UDFA each year, maybe the same this year too. Soooooooo Im normally 95% trade back, but above made me change my mind. I do not want to waive 5th rounder, I feel thats high with players on the bench.    ??
