Mike n Mike talk team building

Heard a conversation this morning on Mike n Mike where they were discussing how to build around a superstar qb, and they basically went against everything Dave believes in.

They both said to give your superstar what he needs to win NOW, not over multiple seasons.

Who is right you guys?

No idea but the opinions of that show mean next to nothing. They probably just take whatever happened to work this season and claim it's the magical formula

Kuechly is our superstar too. A better linebacker than Newton is a qb.

After he was already here 4 years

Gettleman got here in 2013. Having to get to work on the cap hell that strapped the panthers for years. He cleared it up. Getting KB, Funch, Trai, Ginn, Norwell, Remmers, Oher on a budget was all he could do. What do you expect with little to no money? The little wealth that was available can only be spread out so much. He's got money now. let's sit back and see what he does. If he doesn't do anything this off season to help Cam, then I'll definitely grab a pitch fork and march with ya'll.

Cam Newton has a window.

All you have to do is give him a good defense and an OL.  That's it.  Do that and you win.   Now your skill positions can be the difference between being a Super Bowl team and a playoff team but the formula isn't that tough.

There is no logical excuse for what we have allowed to occur to the OL under Cam.

Agree. It's time.

They weren't discussing how to build around a superstar LB, though. They were discussing building around a superstars QB. What does the last sentence have to do with anything?

And that is why they are radio personalities, and not GM's. IMO you still play the game inside out. But when you're a playoff team 3 out of 4 years you're not gonna have the opportunity to draft top tier tackles, while also navigating our restrictive cap (from a former journalist/media GM) while extending the likes of core quality players, Cam, Luke, Greg, TD, Coleman, Oher.

You also have to maintain the ability to offer the 5th years to Star, KB, and eventually Shaq as well. You can go all in when your QB is 36+, but when you have a QB as young as Cam you are looking for sustained success, not a flash in the pan.

I agree we need more weapons, but I'd rather a dynamic runner, and a 2nd TE before we draft another receiver. If we improve the offensive line (healthy Oher, staring Williams, or a vet FA), the separation issues we perceive at the receiver position will begin to clear themselves up.

I will add when we are between the 20's I'd like to see KB, and Funch rotate, while Ginn, and Brown are on the field to work the deep, and underneath. I think we need two speed guys on the field in three receiver sets, KB/Funch along with Olsen add the size element, but there is no substitute for speed. And once we are inside the opponents 20 and the field shrinks, put the big bodies back in on the perimeter, and play basketball.

Agreed, this is a big off season for G-man IMO. If he doesn't help Cam out, I'm really going to start regretting that "In Dave We Trust" tramp stamp I got last year.

You can not compare the 2..  luke has help what does Newton have.. just say that luke is good and leave it because really you can not compate the 2 they are playing 2 different positions on the other side of the ball.

    • Wanting that type of play and being okay with paying $55 million a season for it are two entirely different things. If Bryce were to become the same player Purdy has been, then he would surpass my expectations of him and I'd be okay with him as our QB of the future (and again, I've long been one of the bigger anti Bryce people here who doesn't think he is capable of being our long term solution). But in no world would I be okay with paying him THAT kind of money, paying an average starter elite money is just a terrible decision.
    • I don't think they can overcome that mistake. Hell Lance was a hiccup compared to this. He isn't going to be able to carry that price tag and now he is going to have to do just that. Lol. The NFL is so dumb sometimes.
    • So, one could say that T-Mac is quicker than someone of his size should be and while he might not be quite as fast as Evans in the 40, he's more athletic than Evans. If only someone, anyone, could have seen that in his tape and mentioned that on here, hmmmmmmm In all seriousness, hearing he tested in the 89th percentile in that drill at his size is crazy impressive.  Just tried to look up the times of the top WRs in the league right now, most don't show at time for that, but I did see Chase ran his in 7 seconds flat. I honestly don't know how true this is, but I do remember seeing one breakdown of his tape and the person said he has quiet and efficient feet.  That he's really good at using the minimal steps possible to make his cuts and because of that, it actually makes him look slower to the human eye because you don't see all the quick chop steps that the guys like Tyreek would use in their running. I'm still in a state of disbelief that he's a Panther and it might not fully hit me until week 1 and I see him out there making plays for us, still feels like Goodell is going to just be like, "YOU GOT PUNKED!!!  hahaha, he's a Cowboy now, suck it"
